Chapter 32
It was only later that Jasmine met Rowan.
But during their very first encounter, Rowan had infuriated Jasmine so much she cried.
Tabitha had never even dared to dream in that direction.
She never imagined her daughter would overachieve on such a massive scale!
The fact that Jasmine was actually dating Rowan was a miraculous stroke of luck that Tabitha hadn’t even fantasized about.
Lately, the entire Ford household had been floating on cloud nine.
“Mom, are you ready?”
When Jasmine arrived to pick up Tabitha, she was surprised to see Lyra there. Madeline was in the fitting room, leaving only Tabitha, Lyra, and the stylist on the floor.
Gone was the warm, hypocritical facade she had worn just days prior.
This time, Jasmine’s tone was ice-cold. “Lyra, we need to talk.”
“We have nothing to talk about.”
Jasmine frowned. “How much longer are you going to act like this? Even if you’re obsessed with Rowan, there has to be a limit.”
“Rowan and I are officially together now. You need to stop looking at me like I stole your man every time we cross paths. As far as I know, the two of you never dated, and Rowan never once claimed you as his girlfriend. I am the only girlfriend he has ever had!”
Jasmine conveniently ignored the long-standing arranged marriage between their families, choosing instead to complain about Lyra’s lack of grace.
Seeing her daughter completely dismiss Lyra, Tabitha eagerly chimed in, “You walk around acting like you’re his wife, but to Rowan, you’re absolutely nothing. He doesn’t want you.”
Lyra looked dead at Jasmine. “Did Rowan happen to mention that I’m currently dating his brother?”
Jasmine was completely caught off guard by the remark, freezing in her tracks.
Rowan had indeed never mentioned that.
But she could easily rationalize why he hadn’t-he simply didn’t care about Lyra, so why would he bother bringing it up?
“He never said a word.”
Tabitha, however, was slower to process the information.
All she remembered was Lyra being desperately in love with Rowan. How could she have suddenly switched to dating someone else?
Regardless, this was fantastic news.
Tabitha shot Lyra a knowing look, instantly assuming it was just a desperate ploy to make Rowan jealous.
Jasmine stiffened, a sharp spike of guilt hitting her chest.
That morning, shortly after she had entered the room, Rowan had woken up and mistaken her for someone else.
But she firmly refused to believe that his affection was born from a case of mistaken identity.
He must have harbored feelings for her long before that…
Just like she had for him.
“Mom, let’s go.”
Terrified that Lyra would say something to make Tabitha suspicious, Jasmine grabbed her mother’s arm and hastily dragged her out of the store.
Madeline burst out of the fitting room just in time to see them walking out the front door.
She had been stuck halfway inside the couture gown and couldn’t get it off to save her life.
Furious, she had been listening to the whole exchange while silently cursing them out.
“That Jasmine is absolute trash.”
Madeline whirled around to face Lyra. “And since when are you dating Caspian?”
