Caleb and Kayla remained in the main hall, graciously entertaining the lingering guests.
Waylon was technically Kayla's savior, and by all rights, she should have thanked him personally. Instead, she had Caleb step in to express their gratitude on her behalf.
Waylon, with his naturally indifferent temperament, couldn't have cared less.
After Lyra saw Maddie and the others out, she walked back in. Waylon approached her, his tone dropping the usual pleasantries. "Are you getting tangled up with Rowan again? He hasn't made a clean break with Jasmine yet. Does Delilah know about this?"
Lyra shook her head. "It's not what you think... I'm going to make him suffer a brutal breakup. Once I drive Jasmine out of Seaborne City, I already have a plan to deal with Rowan."
Waylon frowned. "What kind of plan could you possibly come up with?"
"I can't tell you that," Lyra replied, eyeing him with a hint of caution. "You're friends with Rowan. What if you turn around and tip him off?"
Waylon shook his head in exasperation. He was absolutely convinced that Lyra couldn't possibly outmaneuver someone like Rowan.
If she thought she had a plan, it was undoubtedly a delusion.
Lyra changed the subject. "If I asked to borrow two hundred million dollars, would you lend it to me?"
Waylon stared at her. "What on earth are you buying that costs that much?"
Lyra smirked. "Thanks for coming today. I won't hold you up any longer. I'll properly thank you when I have time."
Waylon was left speechless.
By the next afternoon, Lyra slipped out of the house. Rowan's car was already waiting in the underground garage.
As soon as she slid into the back seat, Wesley silently raised the privacy divider.
Rowan was reading something on his tablet and hadn't made a move, but watching the partition glide up, he smirked. Sliding an arm around Lyra's slender waist, he pulled her close. "It seems we shouldn't disappoint our driver."
Lyra frowned. "Can you please fire Wesley?"
