Lyra's features remained soft, but a fleeting shadow of profound sorrow flashed through her eyes.
"Here, let me take her..." Kayla smiled, gently accepting the baby and adjusting the blanket. "It's time for her feeding."
Lyra lingered in her sister-in-law's room a while longer before retreating to her own bedroom.
She couldn't stay there for long. Her mind was a chaotic storm of unresolved emotions. Grabbing her phone, she drove straight to Blackwood Manor.
After passing the first security checkpoint in the exclusive villa district, she drove a bit further before arriving at the estate.
Blackwood Manor was deeply secluded, its towering walls exuding a cold, forbidding majesty that warned strangers to stay away.
The car stopped in front of the ornate wrought-iron gates. Lyra stepped out and rang the doorbell, but no one answered.
It was dead silent, with only the evening breeze rustling through the leaves.
Lyra crossed her arms over her chest, standing by the entrance as she quietly waited for the man.
She wasn't sure how much time had passed.
A sleek black sedan glided to a halt in front of the gates. The door opened, and a man with long legs stepped out. His eyes were dark and unreadable.
Lyra's eyes lit up. Without waiting for him to approach, she bounded forward and threw herself at him. Wrapping her arms tightly around his neck and her legs around his waist, she clung to him securely.
Her display of sheer joy was a flawless performance.
Rowan kissed her fiercely.
Then, carrying her in his arms, he strode into the mansion.
...
Over an hour later.
The man had his eyes closed, lost in the heat of the moment.
Lyra reached under the pillow, pulling out her phone. With one hand, she stealthily activated the camera...
Just as she finished recording and lowered the device, the man suddenly froze and opened his eyes.
