After Miles Ziegler was released from prison, he paid his respects to the family patriarch before being promptly "invited" by Rowan's men.
Yvonne had stayed glued to her uncle's side, unable to shake her unease. She decided to tag along, though upon arriving at the Jameson Group headquarters, she stayed in the car to wait.
After what felt like an eternity, Miles finally emerged from the building.
Yvonne quickly rolled down the window. The moment Miles got into the car, she asked anxiously, "What did Rowan want with you?"
"Just asked a few questions," he replied vaguely.
Unwilling to let it go, she pressed, "What exactly did he ask?"
"The one who saved him from the yacht that night was Lyra," Miles said. "She stayed with him until dawn and then quietly slipped away. But when Rowan woke up that morning, he left the hotel with Jasmine."
Yvonne's jaw dropped. She had always believed Jasmine was the one who saved him—that was the story everyone had heard. Was it all a lie?
"Jasmine was called in by Lyra to take the credit," Miles explained.
Yvonne frowned, deeply confused. "Why would Lyra do that?"
"I have no idea."
Yvonne couldn't wrap her head around it. She thought back to their school days. Her grandfather had also wanted her to sink her claws into Rowan, claiming that Rowan was too rebellious to just blindly accept Grandpa Alistair's arranged marriage with Lyra. He had told her to cozy up to him. Back then, it seemed like she and Lyra had the exact same goal, which was why they had clashed so fiercely.
If Lyra had saved his life, she had the ultimate trump card. Why didn't she use that leverage to secure her position as the future Mrs. Jameson? It didn't make any sense.
But three years had passed, and against all odds, they had ended up together anyway.
"Forget about them," Yvonne sighed.
"You've been through a lot. Focus on your new job abroad tomorrow, and stop giving Grandpa reasons to worry."
"I will," Miles murmured, then added wistfully, "But man, your classmate has gotten even more beautiful."
"Don't even think about it!" Yvonne snapped. "Do you have any idea how many people we begged to get you out? None of it worked until Lyra said the word. You stay far away from her! No more causing trouble!"
Miles knew she was right. "I was just making an observation..."
