She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 401

The next morning.

Lyra slowly woke up. As the room's decor came into focus, she realized with a start that she was still lying in the master bed at Blackwood Manor. She hurriedly pulled the sheets up to wrap around herself. Noticing a set of women's pajamas left beside her, she quickly slipped them on and moved toward the window. Jasmine and her car were already gone.

The rain had stopped.

Lyra checked her phone to find a flood of missed calls. Maddie, Leo, and even Waylon had tried to reach her.

"Mom..."

Rubbing her throbbing temples, Lyra dialed her mother's number. Delilah's anxious voice immediately came through the line.

"Lyra, where are you? You didn't come home last night and wouldn't answer your phone. We were worried sick."

Lyra's heart tightened. She lowered her voice to explain, "I bought an apartment at Starpoint Gardens. I ended up staying here last night and forgot to let you know."

The line went quiet for a moment before she vaguely heard her mother relaying the message to someone else. "She said she bought a place at Starpoint Gardens."

A second later, the person on the other end changed, and Caleb's skeptical voice rang out. "Where's the deed? Let me see it."

"It's in the drawer in my room," Lyra replied helplessly. "Caleb, I'm an adult. Do you have to be so..."

Before she could finish, the clear sound of footsteps heading upstairs echoed through the receiver. "You're the one who lied to us about something as huge as your car accident."

Then came the rustling of a drawer being pulled open and items being shifted around. A moment later, his voice returned, seemingly directed at Delilah beside him. "The deed is here. She really did buy it."

"Alright, as long as you're safe. Did you know Rowan... never mind. Just remember to call next time. I'm hanging up."

Lyra held her phone for a moment. Just as she set it down, she turned to see Rowan leaning against the doorframe.
