She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 501

"Did you take the emergency contraceptive?"

That night in her bedroom, Lyra would have completely forgotten if her mother hadn't brought it up.

Delilah stood firm. "Look at this. If he genuinely cared about your well-being, he would have used protection. These pills wreak havoc on your hormones and damage your body, and you're the one paying the price. Doing something like that is wildly selfish. But that's exactly the kind of selfish man he is. I'm telling you this for your own good."

"I know, Mom." Lyra forced a bitter, internal smile. Why hadn't Rowan used anything again?

Before she could spiral into the thought, Delilah practically shoved a glass of water into her hand. Her mother's gaze was locked on her, absolutely refusing to leave the room until she watched Lyra swallow the pill with her own eyes.

Lyra obediently took the last morning-after pill from her stash.

Delilah nodded sharply. "No more seeing him. This whole ordeal is over, and no one in this house is to ever bring it up again."

Lyra nodded.

Shortly after Delilah left the room, Caleb walked in.

"Mom is seriously on edge," Caleb noted, shaking his head. "Why is she so incredibly opposed to you and Rowan?"

"She's terrified the Fairchilds will end up exactly like the Fords," Lyra replied. Honestly, Delilah wasn't wrong. Rowan had shown zero mercy when he nearly decimated their family business in her past life. She smoothly shifted the topic. "Did you need something?"

Caleb snapped his fingers, remembering. "Right. A bunch of people at the office have been asking about the company retreat. You promised one a while back, but then you delayed it because Quentin Pierce was out. Now everyone keeps asking when it's happening."

Lyra nodded. "I'll bring it up at tomorrow's meeting."

...

The next day, inside the Fairchild Enterprises conference room. As the meeting wrapped up, Lyra brought up the retreat, asking everyone where they wanted to go.

The employees, who had been packing up their files, instantly froze and turned their attention to her.

"Let's finalize it today. Throw out whatever locations you have in mind," Lyra encouraged.

The room instantly buzzed to life, with a dozen different suggestions overlapping in a chaotic but excited debate.

A male coworker sitting near the edge playfully raised his voice, looking directly at Quentin. "Quentin, you absolutely cannot miss it this time! Miss Fairchild literally postponed the entire trip last time just because you were out. We've been waiting forever. She plays total favorites with you!"
