"Yes."
Noticing their eyes drifting toward Quentin, Lyra offered a quick introduction. "This is Quentin Pierce, an engineer at Fairchild Enterprises."
Chandler already knew Quentin. Both Quentin and York Somerset had once been 'invited for a chat' by Rowan, and Chandler had been in the room. They exchanged a few polite pleasantries.
Quentin was naturally introverted and hated making small talk. After a couple of brief exchanges, he went quiet. Chandler and his colleague picked up on the vibe immediately, politely wrapping up the conversation and excusing themselves.
Just as they walked away, Caleb came over to take the baby.
Lyra and Quentin headed back inside to finish their lunch.
Meanwhile, as soon as Chandler was out of earshot, he pulled out his phone and fired off a report to Rowan.
[Ran into the Fairchild company retreat at the hot springs.]
[Saw Miss Fairchild.]
The messages sat on read for a long time. Rowan was completely swamped with his business trip and clearly didn't have a second to spare to reply.
After lunch, Lyra grabbed her jacket and walked across the lobby by herself. She stopped dead in her tracks when she saw Andrea Nash practically wrestling a massive water jug into the lobby's water cooler, looking thoroughly exhausted.
Lyra hurried over. "Andrea?"
Andrea looked up, clearly embarrassed. "Miss Fairchild..."
"Why are you working here?" Lyra asked, utterly shocked.
"Mr. Jameson fired me."
Lyra figured it out instantly, her brow furrowing. "Because you tipped me off the other day?"
Andrea stopped what she was doing and looked down, remaining silent. It was all the confirmation Lyra needed.
A surge of protective anger flared in Lyra's chest. She immediately turned toward the exit. "I'm going to have a word with him."
Andrea stopped her. "He's out of town on business, so don't waste your energy. Mr. Jameson always does exactly what he says. Once he makes a decision, it's final."
Lyra paused for a moment, then reached out and grabbed Andrea's hand. "Then come work for me, Andrea."
"Can you report to Fairchild Enterprises tomorrow?"
This time, Andrea didn't refuse.
