Waylon studied Lyra quietly through the glass after his long speech. But Lyra just held the receiver calmly, her eyes indifferent, giving away no emotion.
He had repeatedly tried to prove that Rowan inherently disliked her, but his venomous words could no longer stir up a reaction.
"Waylon, this is the last time I'll be visiting you."
Lyra sighed. "I didn't expect you to just keep insulting me."
"I don't even care why you hate me anymore... Maybe I didn't benefit you, so you projected all your failures onto me. None of it matters."
"My past life taught me one thing: I don't need to live for love."
"I may not have found someone who loves me purely in this life, but I am going to pour all my love into my son."
A soft warmth melted into Lyra's eyes. "My Pip... my baby. In our last life, he didn't even get the chance to open his eyes and see this world. But in this life, I made sure he did. Watching him learn to talk, watching him eat, seeing him live so happily... every bite he takes fills me with absolute joy. I can't read Rowan, and I can't figure him out. With our past life standing between us, he can never be the love of my life, but at least he's a good father... I don't care about romance anymore. I just want to be a good mother."
Waylon looked up, probing, "What do you mean, you didn't find someone who truly loves you in this life? Are you talking about Rowan, or some other man?"
Lyra paused, surprised he even cared. "Someone else."
"Who?"
"You don't need to know," Lyra replied.
And there was one more truth: in their past life, Rowan had originally loved her.
It was an old memory they had never spoken of. During a gathering between their families when they were still students, Lyra, who was much younger, had fallen asleep on a massive sofa while waiting for her father. Rowan had been sitting right next to her, waiting for his own father. Seeing no one else around, Rowan had leaned down and gently stolen a kiss against her flawless cheek.
Silas Chavez, Lucas, and Waylon had been coming downstairs at that exact moment and caught him in the act.
Instead of showing any embarrassment when he saw them, Rowan simply raised a finger to his lips, signaling them to stay quiet so they wouldn't wake her.
His composure wasn't the fleeting recklessness of a teenage boy. Under the unspoken expectations of their families, they were practically destined for each other. That quiet, innocent affection had genuinely existed.
But later on, Lucas had panicked, intentionally dropping hints to Rowan about Lyra being manipulative. Arthur Fairchild and his wife were obsessively fixated on wealth, treating every relationship as a transaction—even their daughter's affections were just a bargaining chip. And Waylon himself had actively fanned the flames of doubt...

okay...
rowan...
What Rowan did in his past life was horrific, and I’m not excusing it, but he truly did everything he could in his second life to repent and atone for what he did to Lyra. At some point, there has to be room for forgiveness and grace. If someone spends their entire life trying to make amends and become a better person, then what does redemption mean if we never allow them a chance to be forgiven? Even someone who has done terrible things deserves the possibility of redemption, and honestly, I want Rowan to be happy too!...
