She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 71

The following morning.

Not long after arriving at her office, Lyra spotted Rowan and his executive assistant, Wesley Wade, walking through the halls of Fairchild Holdings.

The potential partnership between the two corporate giants was public knowledge by now, so Rowan's presence was entirely expected.

However, locking eyes was unavoidable. Lyra offered a polite, detached nod. "Mr. Jameson."

Rowan met her gaze, his dark eyes entirely devoid of emotion. "Miss Fairchild."

After the briefest exchange of corporate pleasantries, they walked right past each other.

A few steps down the hall, Rowan paused. He glanced over his shoulder, watching Lyra's figure retreat down the corridor, as if the clingy girl who used to affectionately call him "Rowan" had vanished into thin air.

Not that it mattered to him.

Noticing his boss freeze, Wesley frowned, casting a highly suspicious glare at Lyra's retreating back.

Before he could dwell on it, Rowan resumed walking, and Wesley scrambled to keep pace.

Arthur was out touring the manufacturing plants today, so Caleb was hosting the meeting. Moving forward, Caleb would be the primary point of contact for the entire project.

Rowan and Caleb were scheduled to hash out the finer details of the collaboration.

As the men settled into the grand conference room, Lyra quietly slipped in through the back doors. She took a seat right behind Caleb, remaining absolutely silent.

Wesley noticed her right away. He kept a close eye on her, noting how intensely the young heiress seemed to be listening.

Though, how much of it was actually registering was anyone's guess.

After all, the old Lyra couldn't have sat still in a corporate chair for thirty minutes if her life depended on it.

It was obvious she was trying to prove she had grown up.

Or, more accurately, she was desperate to show off in front of Rowan.

Wesley chuckled inwardly, certain she was just wasting her time.

Caleb blinked, genuinely surprised at how fast things were moving.

Rowan was already officially claiming Jasmine as his girlfriend in professional settings.

Caleb hesitated for a second before glancing back at Lyra...

She remained seated in the back row, her expression perfectly blank.

Wesley shot her another highly judgmental look.

"Next time, then," Caleb said casually as the group headed toward the elevators.

Just as they stepped into the lobby, Mr. Yates, one of Fairchild's senior partners, spotted Rowan and hurried over to shake his hand. "Mr. Jameson! It's been far too long."

"Good to see you."

"I've been hearing incredible things about you and the Ford heiress. A brilliant California graduate coming back to help run your empire—what an absolute powerhouse couple. With you two at the helm, the Jameson Group is going to be unstoppable."
