Chapter 70
Chapter 70
When Rowan said “whatever,” it meant he had completely stopped caring if news of his new relationship reached Alistair Jameson’s ears. He was already prepared for the fallout.
After lunch wrapped up, Lyra walked out of the restaurant alongside her father and the older executives. Just as they reached the entrance, she spotted Rowan, Jasmine, and Waylon standing by the valet.
They were clearly just leaving as well.
The older CEOs immediately recognized the young billionaire. Stunned for a second, they rushed forward to offer their greetings.
Rowan was notorious for his ruthless business tactics and flawless execution. Even men twice his age had to plaster on flattering smiles when addressing him.
“It’s been a while, Mr. Jameson, Mr. Grayson, Mr. Chavez.”
“Good to see you gentlemen,” Rowan replied smoothly, shaking their outstretched hands.
Since the massive corporate partnership between the Jameson and Fairchild families hadn’t been officially signed yet, Arthur remained silent, letting the pleasantries play out.
Lyra didn’t even bother looking at Rowan’s group.
But then a sudden realization hit her! Earlier in the hallway, when the executives had complimented her and Rowan as a picture-perfect couple, she hadn’t bothered to correct them.
A sense of impending disaster washed over her, and she snapped her gaze toward Jasmine.
Jasmine was already looking right at her, a knowing glint in her eye. Without missing a beat, Jasmine slid her arm intimately through Rowan’s, flashing Lyra a triumphant, provocative look.
The sudden display of affection caught the older executives completely off guard. They stared at Lyra
in shock.
None of them had known who Jasmine arrived with. Because she had been standing quietly between Rowan and Lucas, they assumed she was someone’s casual plus-one, or perhaps just a very pretty secretary. But now she was clinging to Rowan, and he wasn’t pulling away.
Didn’t that confirm she was Rowan’s woman?
But wasn’t Rowan supposed to be engaged to the Fairchild heiress?
One of the men couldn’t help but stammer, “Well, this…”
Realizing that finishing that sentence would be professional suicide, he quickly snapped his mouth
shut.
Waylon and Lucas subtly shifted their stances, clearly positioning themselves to back Jasmine up.
Arthur saw the entire unspoken exchange play out right in front of him. Instinctively, he looked down at his daughter, worried she might crumble.
Catching her father’s concerned gaze, Lyra tilted her head up and offered him a radiant, brilliant

smile.
Seeing that she was completely unfazed, Arthur let out a silent sigh of relief and gently patted her hair. “Let’s go.”
Lyra linked her arm through his. Having a father like this was the ultimate standard-the man she had chased in her past life didn’t have half of Arthur’s grace or gentlemanly restraint. If she ever dated again, it would be someone like him.
She didn’t spare the other group a single backward glance.
As she walked away with Arthur, the suppliers watched her go. While the woman clinging to Rowan was undeniably stunning, Arthur’s daughter possessed a luminous, breathtaking beauty. That single smile had been utterly captivating.
Mr. Quinton’s mind started racing. He nudged Arthur gently. “Arthur, your daughter is absolutely gorgeous. What do you say to setting her up with my son? He’s single and looking to settle down.”
“Well now…” Arthur chuckled warmly. “I think I’d like to keep her all to myself for a few more years.”
They weren’t far enough away to keep their voices entirely private. Rowan and Jasmine heard every word. Jasmine’s free hand curled into a tight fist against her gown.
She knew she outperformed Lyra in every intellectual and social metric, but when it came to sheer, effortless beauty, she couldn’t claim victory.
Watching them walk toward their waiting cars, Lucas scoffed. “Look at her. We stopped hanging out with her, and now she’s given up entirely. Resorting to having lunch with a bunch of old men?”
“Didn’t you notice what she was actually doing?” Jasmine murmured softly. “She was probably putting on a show to get those suppliers to set her up with their rich sons.”
Lucas’s face darkened at the thought. He shot a look at Rowan. “They wouldn’t actually introduce her to anyone, would they?”
Jasmine noticed that Rowan remained completely silent, staring straight ahead as if he couldn’t care
less.
“Let’s go…”
Rowan’s voice was cold and detached. He opened the passenger door for Jasmine, and the two of them sped off into the afternoon traffic.
