She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 86

Delilah Fairchild had no idea, and Martha certainly didn't either.

Delilah didn't overthink it, assuming Caleb had simply mentioned it to his sister, and returned to the kitchen to have the staff finalize the morning's grocery list.

Once in her bedroom, Lyra sent a voice message to Liam.

"Why aren't you back yet on your day off?"

Liam: "I'll be back a little later."

Lyra transferred him a sum of money.

Liam was confused.

Lyra sent another voice note. "Kayla is coming over for lunch tomorrow. I need you to go to Townsend's Bakery and pick up a batch of their signature lemon tarts. Make sure you wait in line for the freshly baked ones—she loves them."

Liam happily accepted the transfer. "You got it."

Lyra always overpaid for these errands, and Liam loved taking on this kind of work, happily pocketing the generous surplus as a tip.

The next day, Lyra accompanied Arthur Fairchild to a business meeting, and as ten o'clock approached, she began to check her watch.

"Dad, we can't keep our VIP guest waiting. We need to head back soon."

Arthur checked the time with a helpless smile, turning to meet the gaze of their business partner, Mr. Montgomery.

"Mr. Fairchild," Mr. Montgomery asked, "is there an emergency at home today?"

"Not an emergency, exactly," Arthur replied politely. "Caleb's girlfriend is visiting the house for the first time today, so my daughter and I need to get back early."

"Oh? Caleb has a girlfriend?" Mr. Montgomery's eyes lit up. "No wonder your daughter is so eager to leave! I was hoping to grab lunch with you both, but we'll have to take a raincheck. Family VIPs come first!"

Mr. Montgomery completely understood, and Arthur shook his hand with a warm smile before parting ways.

Stepping out of the upscale cafe, Arthur and Lyra spotted Rowan Jameson and Jasmine Ford.

The couple was just getting out of their car.

Whenever Caleb came around to check on his sister, Jasmine's heart would flutter; he was always so gentle, radiating a warm, welcoming energy toward Lyra's friends.

Jasmine was highly perceptive, and over time, she could tell Caleb harbored feelings for her.

But neither of them ever crossed the line or confessed.

Shortly after she finished her PhD and returned to the country, she started dating Rowan.

Caleb must have realized his chances were gone and moved on to the Harrington heiress instead.

"Let's head inside," Rowan said, his voice a low rumble.

Snapping out of her daze, Jasmine quickly put on a smile and followed him into the cafe.

She had Rowan now—a man far superior and far more outstanding. There was no point in dwelling on the past.

With that thought, Jasmine immediately pushed Caleb out of her mind.
