When Lyra arrived home, Kayla and Caleb hadn't shown up yet, but Arthur had already changed into comfortable loungewear.
As the staff set the dining table, Lyra asked, "Mom, is Kayla not here yet?"
Arthur laughed. "Can't you look around and see for yourself?"
"I was asking Mom." Lyra turned her expectant gaze back toward the front door.
"You've asked that three times since you walked in," Delilah teased with a smile.
The moment she finished speaking, the sound of a car engine echoed from the courtyard. Caleb had arrived with Kayla.
Lyra sprinted outside instantly.
Arthur and Delilah, who had been relaxing on the sofa, stood up at the sound, warm and welcoming smiles gracing their faces.
Following close behind Caleb, Kayla respectfully greeted Arthur and Delilah before turning a bright smile on Lyra. "Lyra..."
Swallowing the bitter ache of memories from her past life, Lyra reached out and took her hands, her voice full of genuine affection. "Kayla."
The two young women held hands tightly.
As expected, Kayla presented thoughtful gifts to Arthur and Delilah, followed by a beautiful present for Lyra. In return, Lyra gifted her a designer piece from the exact same collection. Kayla was surprised, her eyes lighting up with genuine delight at their shared taste.
"Come, come, let's eat and talk," Arthur said, taking his seat at the head of the table.
Throughout the meal, Delilah practically doted on Kayla, constantly nudging Caleb to serve her more food.
It being her first visit, Kayla was understandably nervous.
Thankfully, the Fairchilds were incredibly hospitable. Chairman Fairchild might have looked intimidating in public, but he was remarkably warm and easygoing in person.
Kayla thanked Lyra for the gift exchange, and then expressed her gratitude for the exquisite bracelet Caleb had given her previously. Caleb hadn't taken the credit; he had honestly admitted it was Lyra's doing. As Lyra waved off the thanks, she shot Caleb a playful glare, which sent both her and Kayla into a fit of laughter.
Watching the scene, Caleb was in high spirits, confident that his family would never suffer from any toxic in-law drama. It was almost magical how well they got along before even spending real time together.
"Did I say that?" Lyra had no memory of it.
"Of course you did. Would your mother lie to you?" Delilah chuckled.
"Well, I absolutely adore Kayla now." Lyra held her mother's hand. "She's so kind and warm. She's the perfect match for Caleb."
"Looks like I'll need to hire a wedding planner," Delilah said cheerfully. "Your father thought very highly of her today, too."
Just as Lyra had expected, her parents were completely won over by Kayla.
The next morning at work, Lyra made Quentin Pierce her first stop.
Quentin's structural algorithms had officially passed the comprehensive stress tests. While it wasn't exactly at the finish line Lyra envisioned, it gave Fairchild Holdings absolute confidence in their newest venture.
Caleb, who had initially dismissed Quentin, now openly admitted the man was worth every cent of his million-dollar salary, even promising him a massive bonus once the project officially launched.
