The priest steps back, and Harvey…who’s been practically vibrating since the moment he saw me walk down that aisle doesn’t waste a single second. He pulls me into him and the kiss is deep. The kind of deep that makes my knees forget how to work and my stomach flip upside down.
I feel his fingers press against the boning of my corset, pushing through the seams like he’s trying to reach my actual skin. Hungry. That’s the only word for it. He bites my bottom lip-and doesn’t let go until the crowd erupts into cheers loud enough to shake the fountains.
I laugh against his mouth, holding his face in my hands because I know this energy. Harvey is on go. Always has been, always will be. And yeah, I’m already his wife, but he’s acting like we just started dating and he’s terrified I might disappear. Possessive doesn’t even cover it.
When he finally lets me breathe, I reach up and wipe my gloss from his lips with my thumb. He catches my hand and presses a kiss to my finger…right where my new engagement ring sits. A seven-carat radiant cut diamond that catches every bit of light in the garden and throws it back like a disco ball on steroids. Yeah, I’m not subtle about it. And I’m not a good liar either, so I’ll just say the truth: I love Harvey Prescott to death.
From the moment I saw him standing at the altar, I couldn’t believe I was staring at my best friend. The same geek but now he’s standing there in that smoky black tailored suit except nothing about his body language is tailored. His hair falls messily across his forehead like he ran his hands through it one too many times waiting for me. His hands were clasped in front of him all respectful, but the second my dad and mom started walking me down, he took two big steps away from the altar and came to get me himself.
Impatient.
My bridal party last night literally kept me away from him the entire night yesterday even when we were in the same house. Which is insane because we’re always together. Twenty-four hours apart felt like a year. I don’t know whose bright idea it was to put him in a suit that shows off his chest like that, but now I’m going feral and I have to act like some innocent bride in this white dress.
Please.
Whatever. I’m getting out of it soon because the priest part is officially over. We’ve got an after-party at the house by evening and all the guests will be there. I’ve got time to grab something to cat, catch up with the girls, maybe breathe for five seconds.
Honestly, the most chaotic part of this is that Harvey’s got all these friends from major gangs in the city, and they’re all dressed in shadow colors, making celebration noises a like we’re merging two worlds instead of just two people. It’s kind of charming.
“You look so beautiful.”
Bianca, Harvey’s mom says it the second he finally lets go of me, and I give her the biggest hug. I’ve always

remembered her as such a kind soul from the foster home she ran. Those kids loved her, and that’s pretty much the giveaway that she’s wonderful. I used to be so jealous of her long blonde hair, you don’t even know. I remember how she’d crack the door open between me and Harvey when I came over to visit, but I always scoffed because I was like, “nothing would ever happen.”
Guess she saw the future.
She got to the city way earlier to join the wedding and has been staying at the Prescott mansion with us. These past two and a half weeks have been amazing…getting to know her again, catching up on everything she’s been doing out of state.
She heard about Francis but didn’t go to the hospital to see him. I gave her an update, and she looked interested, but I think she didn’t want to cross a line by visiting him. Especially when in these past three weeks, Winny made it crystal clear that she wouldn’t stay in the same house as the accountant who slept with her husband.
Harvey politely told Winny to leave if she couldn’t handle it. She didn’t. But I don’t think Bianca is trying to stay here long. I heard her tell Harvey she’d get an apartment after the wedding.
Honestly? I don’t understand their relationship yet. It’s like Harvey misses his mom, but there’s a reason they’re not closer. I’m guessing it has to do with the fact that she thought Harvey was guilty of what Baxter framed him for that rainy night. Yeah. They haven’t talked about that yet.
“Mrs. Prescott?”
Someone calls me, and before I even turn, I hear it again. And again. And again. Mrs. Prescott. Mrs. Prescott. MRS. PRESCOTT.
Okay, that’s going to take some getting used to.
“Let’s go in.” Bianca chuckles with me, helping with my dress along with the staff as we head into the house.
I spot Mom with her group of tea-party friends somewhere in the crowd. She waves at me, but before she can come close, someone calls her away, so I don’t bother. I need to take a freaking nap so I have strength for the evening party. I also really, really need food in my stomach. Like, actual food. Not champagne and tiny appetizers that disappear in one bite.
The moment we get into my room, I exhale so hard I probably deflate three inches.
“Alone, I announce to the universe. “Finally.”
“The pictures look so good.” Emily giggles in and shows her phone to me.
“Really?” I lean in, squinting at the screen.
“Bomb AF!” She grins, swiping through shots of me and Harvey at the altar. Wow, we look stupid happy.
“You must be hungry?” Bianca asks, pushing a stray garment bag out of the way. She’s already got her mom- mode activated. I can tell by the way she’s scanning the room like she’s about to materialize a sandwich from thin air.

“Mom-in-law?” I sit up and point at her with both hands. “You are the freaking best. Like, ever. I’m keeping you. You know that, right? Harvey’s negotiable, but you’re non-negotiable.”
She laughs. “I’ll take that as a compliment.”
“Emily, I need help to lose the corset right now. Can you get Rose to come in?” I wobble myself into the closet where the De Claire team has prepped my next outfit for the evening event.
I told them to not be on standby cause one they’re so excited about this wedding…plus they’re helping us with business by talking to the guests, casually dropping how many hours went into my dress so we can get more client.
Therefore, the staff can help me get out of this thing instead.
I catch my reflection in the full-length mirror and awe at myself.
This wedding was literally everything I wanted. Down to the horses, the outdoor music, the guest list. And for once, this is the end of the Jenna-and-Reign issue, which is the biggest bonus anyone could ever ask for.
“Mrs. Prescott-”
“There you are.” I wave over the two staff members who just walked in. “I need help getting out of this dress.”
They hurry over and start working on the ropes. I suck in my stomach…which, rude, because I haven’t eaten and feel the pressure slowly release.
“The guests are all asking about you,” one of them says.
“She’s not to be disturbed.” Bianca says. “Especially by Francis’s family.”
“I already passed that message, ma’am. Plus your mom, Mrs Marie is really doing justice answering those questions. It almost sounds like she’s a pro at it.” Rosie says.
“Oh trust me,” I say, stepping out of the gown with a dramatic sigh of relief. “My mom is.”
“Jones has brought you something to cat.” Bianca’s voices again.
“Thank you guys. I’m going to take a nap. Wake me up in exactly-“I pause, doing quick math in my head. “I don’t know. The party’s a full storm again at evening. Just… don’t let me sleep through it.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
They file out of the room, and I fluff my hair in the mirror while standing in a really short lace slip dress. As the door closes, I hear one of them say “sir” and my stomach flips cause that means Harvey has left the cordon to find me.
“Mom?” I hear him. “Can you give us some space-”

“Oh, you don’t have to tell me twice. I’ll even shut the door behind myself. And the whole house, if I have to.”
“Thank you!”
I chuckle inside the closet and wait for him to come here and get me.
“Hey, wife.”
His gravelly voice literally makes the very large room shake or maybe that’s just my knees.
“Hey, husband.”
I turn around slowly with a dramatic flair and walk toward him for a soft kiss. That’s what I go for, anyway. A soft, sweet, we-just-got-married kind of kiss.
But then this man fills his tongue into mine and starts taking off his shirt.
I bite his lip and use my hand to keep his mouth open against mine, pulling back just enough to whisper.
“No, no. Don’t take off your clothes.” I giggle, raising my leg up to meet his thigh. “I want you to fuck me in it.”
