Chapter 112
Winny came in earlier, while the wedding was in full bloom.

She had walked into Jennifer’s room out of habit…forgetting that she is no longer the Mrs. Prescott. That title now belongs to someone younger, someone with softer edges and a brighter smile, someone currently drowning in tulle and champagne toasts somewhere down the hall.
Even after realizing her mistake, Winny stayed.
She doesn’t know why exactly. Maybe it’s the way the room has been completely transformed… wiped clean of everything that was once hers. The bed is different. The closet doors are different. Even the painting above the fireplace…the one she had chosen herself from a gallery in Florence is gone, replaced by something abstract and modern that Jennifer probably thinks is edgy.
Winny scoffs softly, her eyes dragging across the room the way a tongue finds a sore tooth. Everywhere she looks, Jennifer’s taste bleeds through. Wedding decorations crowd the vanity…ribbons, dried petals, a sash someone’s hung over the mirror that reads Bride in gold cursive.
Her lip curls.
The whole house is has been buzzing since last night during the bridal shower and bachelor night. Of course. A house full of young women and men doing what young people do…shrieking, celebrating.
She couldn’t sleep through it. She still can’t.
But that apart from the noise, something else is keeping her awake and it’s Harvey.
She thinks his name and immediately wishes she hadn’t. She is standing in what used to be her room, in what is now his wife’s room, and she is thinking about her stepson.
Her stepson.
Could she have fallen somewhere and hit her head? That would explain it. That would make it simple, medical. Something a doctor could point to on a scan and say, there that’s why.
—
Because to her, Harvey has always been darkness. From the very first day he stepped into this family, he looked at her the way storms look at open water…possibly hatred or indifference sharpened to a point.
It was a close call when a shoe rolled off the back of the closet shelf where Winny was been hiding in the
room.
Winny first heard the door open when Jennifer walked in along that bitch of a secretary or is it accountant… Bianca. It is as if everything is working against her. Even now, when she thinks the coast is clear because she no longer hears Jennifer and Harvey talking to each other, she crawls across the cashmere rug toward the closet door. She holds her breath, tries to make sure even that cannot be heard.
After successfully getting off the floor, she peeks through the crack to see if the coast is clear. Instead, what she sees shocks her so deeply that she gasps.
There, on the bed, Jennifer is sprawled on all fours with her face pressed into the mattress, moaning as

Harvey pushes himself into her slowly. Fortunately, he has the sheets wrapped around his waist while holding Jennifer’s hips so she cannot see either of their nakedness.
But the sounds are so filthy, they can never be covered.
Winny is stuck on the sight of it. On how masterful Harvey’s body looks as he works his new wife.
It has only been a few weeks since Harvey helped keep Winny from falling. And now… this?
She sees Jennifer shaking uncontrollably. Winny blinks fast, unable to believe what she is looking at, but she cannot remove her face from the gap.
“Harv-“Jennifer’s voice breaks.
Winny’s face tightens. She watches him pound into Jennifer like that, with that look on his face…passion. Care in his eyes, as if he is checking whether he is thrusting too fast or too hard. Winny does not miss it. She watches it all until he releases himself and falls between Jennifer’s legs again. He wraps the sheets around her and hugs her from behind, kissing her skin afterward like he cannot get enough of her.
Jennifer weakly brings her hand up and touches his face without really looking at him. He says something that makes her laugh. He is laughing too. Then Jennifer begins to close her eyes, and he pats her bum until she falls asleep.
The moment Harvey moves his body, Winny quickly pulls back so the closet door closes without a sound. She rushes back to her hiding place.
Finally, she crawls out again and sees that Harvey is no longer in the room. Knowing this, she passes the bed area, reaches the chaise, unlocks it, and slips out of the room as fast as she can. But it is impossible to forget what she has just seen.
It was Harvey she looked at the whole time. How he put that effort and how Winny wishes the sheets had fallen from his waist.
The moment she gets away from the room, the only taste in her mouth is bitter.
“Jennifer is taking a nap, so any questions you have, ask the event planner first. If they can’t answer, you can just ask me.” Bianca is walking forward and almost bumps into Winny, who is still stunned by what she just witnessed.
But because she hates Bianca, she doesn’t miss the part where she sees the damn accountant who slept with her husband behaving like the second–in–command around here.
“Excuse me? You’re giving orders?” Winny asks.
This is probably the third time she’s having a conversation with her.
Ever since the first day, Bianca and Jennifer’s mother bonded quickly like true mothers–in–law to each other. They were deciding how the house was going to be decorated, and Winny wasn’t given a chance to anything.
Even the family finances and household accounts that Winny had managed for years, Jennifer handed those off to Bianca too, because apparently Bianca has a background in accounting, or finance, or whatever.
