Skipped At The Altar, Taken By His Uncle novel Chapter 12

Chapter 12

Whitney never expected to run into Klein at the nursing home.

Today, Klein had ditched his usual suit and tie.

Beneath his dark gray coat, a simple light gray shirt hung open at the collar, showing off his sharp collarbones.

Just below, the faint lines of his abs gave him a bit of a bad boy vibe today.

Uncle Klein?Whitney gasped, unable to hide her surprise.

Klein approached with effortless composure, each step steady and assured. Mrs. Moore, I returned to the country a few days ago and wanted to pay you a visit.”

Klein was Tara’s youngest son, born when she was already getting on in years. The strain of having a child so late in life weakened her health, and she passed away far too early.

Tara was still in her forties when she died.

When Klein was just a baby, Patricia had held him in her arms.

Patricia’s eyes lit up. Oh, it’s Klein. I can’t believe how much you’ve grown. If Tara were here, she’d be thrilled.

Klein gave a small, easy smile. Yeah. My mom and you were really close. I’m here to check on you for her.”

Patricia looked at Klein, feeling more and more pleased with him the longer she watched.

If her own son had even half of Klein’s skills, he wouldn’t be in such a mess now.

Whit, are you still mad about the car thing last time?Klein asked.

Whitney’s cheeks turned red. Uncle Klein, you’ve got the wrong idea. It’s not that I didn’t want to see you.”

She’d just thought the visitor was Carter.

Patricia saw how nervous Whitney was and quickly spoke up, Oh, she wouldn’t have the guts. She thought it was Carter, but didn’t expect it to be you, Klein.”

Klein put on a barelythere smile. “I see.”

They chatted a bit longer until Patricia started to feel tired. She gave Whitney’s hand a gentle pat, urging her to leave with Klein.

Whitney lingered, reluctant to go. Grandma, I’ll come to see you again in a couple of days.

Sweetheart, you don’t have to visit so often. I know you care about me. Just make sure to take care of yourself,Patricia said.

Whitney walked Klein to the door, then quickly made up an excuse about needing to find the director and slipped away.

Klein lowered his eyes, a faint smile tugging at his lips. He thought, She slipped so quickly.

Whitney added the deputy director’s contact info and switched her grandma’s primary contact to her own number.

When she got to the parking lot, she spotted Klein, who should’ve already left, casually leaning against her car.
