Chapter 211
Chapter 211
The next morning, Dustin woke up and acted as if nothing had happened the day before.
He kept making milk and changing diapers, taking care of everything on his own.
Lena didn’t bring it up either.
But after breakfast, just as Dustin was about to head out, Leña called out to him.
“Wait a second,” she said.
Dustin stood tall by the door, a hint of confusion in his eyes. “What’s up?”
Lena walked over, hooked her fingers through his tie, and gently pulled him closer.

Her long lashes fluttered as she brushed a quick kiss against his cheek. She said with a blushing face, “Alright, off to work go.”
Dustin was over the moon. ‘A morning kiss? I’m in heaven,’ he thought.
As Lena turned to leave, Dustin firmly caught her slender wrist and tugged her back into his warm embrace.
He claimed her lips in a searing kiss, full of heat and longing.
The nanny quickened her steps as she passed by, smiling to herself, unable to help but think, ‘Mr. Reed and Mrs. Reed are truly a loving couple.’
Only when Lena’s mind was spinning from lack of air did Dustin finally release her lips.
“Go on back. Don’t wear yourself out. If you get tired, just let the nanny look after the baby,” Dustin said.
Lena, still a bit lightheaded, replied, “Yeah, I know. Go on, get going.”
Even after the door closed, Lena’s heart was still pounding.
From tying the knot to having a baby, it was like someone had hit the fast-forward button on Lena and Dustin’s relationshi]
Things had just taken off out of nowhere.
So when Whitney suddenly started asking her things about love and feelings, Lena honestly didn’t know how to answer.
They’d skipped right over the whole dating phase and jumped straight into raising a baby together.
It was such a surreal feeling. Lena just couldn’t put it into words.
She didn’t hate being close to Dustin, and in fact, she kind of liked it. ‘So… does that mean I really like him? Lena wondered.
Yvonne was flying back from abroad today.
She hadn’t gotten to meet her granddaughter yet, not even once since the baby was born.
Things between Yvonne and Lena weren’t as tense as they used to be.
Yvonne played with her adorable granddaughter for a moment before she took Lena by the hand and led her to a quiet, comfortable spot to sit down.
“Lena, it’s been so long since we’ve just sat down and had a calm, heart-to-heart talk like this,” Yvonne said softly.
Lena had no idea when it began, but whenever anything about her mom came up, she’d bristle like a hedgehog, arm herself up without even thinking.
But after becoming a mom herself, sometimes she could catch glimpses of what her own mother must’ve felt.
“Is he good to you?” Lena asked.
Deep down, Lena didn’t want her mom to keep going through marriage after marriage. All those breakups just mean mom still hadn’t found the happiness she deserved.
She just wished her mom could finally be with someone who genuinely treated her right.
“He’s not bad. Maybe this time, I’ll actually stay married,” Yvonne said.
Lena glanced at her mom’s smile. There was something about it that felt different from before, softer somehow.
Yvonne said calmly, “Lena, now that you’re married, I just want to sit down and talk with you for real. I know you’ve be upset with me, first, because I remarried not long after your dad passed away, and second, because I married Ethan’s fa Am I right?”
Lena bit her lips and didn’t say a word.
Yeah, those really were the two things that had always stuck in her heart when it came to her mom.
“Ethan isn’t right for you. When I was seeing his father, I honestly had no clue about what was going on between you two Lena, you have to understand. If a man really likes you, he’d never make you be the one to make the first move,” Yvonne said.
“Even if I hadn’t married his father, you and Ethan were never going to work out. You only saw his gentle side, but you missed how distant he could be. For him, relationships are just a side dish, never the main thing in his life,” Yvonne addec
Lena sort of understood, but she wasn’t sure she really got it.
“He just hates the idea of marriage, that’s all. It’s not like he’s saving himself for anyone,” Yvonne said.
“Yeah, I know. I don’t like him anymore,” Lena mumbled.
“That’s good,” Yvonne replied.
Yvonne was genuinely afraid her daughter might lose herself and never come around.
“And the second thing, Lena, your dad was cheating on me again and again, even while he was still alive. Honestly, we were already planning to get divorced, but then he passed away so suddenly. You were so little back then. I just couldn’t bring myself to tell you the truth because I didn’t want to ruin the hero you saw in him. But I don’t want you to keep holding it against me, okay?” Yvonne said gently.
Lena was stunned.
She had never seen that coming.
‘Dad… Lena thought, her mind reeling.
‘Did he really cheat on Mom over and over?’ she wondered, her heart twisting in pain.
“Mom, when did you find out?” Lena asked softly, still reeling from the shock.
Yvonne smiled softly and said, “A long time ago. The first time, I chose to forgive him, but soon realized forgiveness was just the beginning, and it led to one compromise after another. I did think about divorcing him and taking you with me. But I thought you’d have a better life as the Harris family’s granddaughter. So I just went along with it for your sake.”
Fortunately, that part of her life was finally behind her now.
It finally hit Lena and she was only now starting to understand everything.
On impulse, she threw her arms around her mom. As she did, she spotted a single strand of gray in her mother’s lor
Lena felt her nose sting and her throat tighten.
Her mom who had bickered and fussed with her… was getting older now.
“I’m sorry, Mom…” Lena whispered, her voice thick with emotion.
“You don’t have to say sorry to me, Lena. Everything I did, I chose for myself,” Yvonne said gently.
Yvonne shared all this with Lena because she wanted her daughter to know that, if she ever faced something like this she could always come to her mom and talk about it, no matter what.
She didn’t want them to keep each other at arm’s length forever, living like strangers who never truly opened up.
“Dustin’s really good to you. It’s obvious he really likes you and cherishes you,” Yvonne said softly.
Lena’s face flushed. “I know,” she replied.Lena Harris
“Try to keep your temper in check now and then. It’s okay to be a little stubborn, but don’t go too far,” Yvonne said softly

Whitney listened to Lena on the phone, her jaw dropped.
‘Wait, so James’s first son and second son both cheated?’ Whitney thought, still stunned.
‘And what about the third son Klein? Is he any different?’ she wondered, her thoughts spinning.
“Whit, don’t overthink it. Uncle Klein’s definitely not the cheating type,” Lena said, defending him.
“Not yet. But with their family genes, I wouldn’t be so sure,” Whitney replied.
Lena let out an awkward laugh. “Hey, Whit, that’s not fair. You’re kinda roasting me too, you know.”

When Klein got home from work, he could tell right away that Whitney was giving him the stink eye.
“Hey, honey, how was work today? Did everything go smoothly with your case?” Klein asked, trying to sound casual.
“What case? I told you, I’ve been handling non-litigation stuff lately!” Whitney snapped.
To make her pregnancy as smooth as possible, she’d made up her mind not to handle any lawsuits this year.
Court cases were just way too emotionally draining, so Whitney figured she’d steer clear of all that drama for now.
Klein didn’t get upset at all, even after Whitney snapped at him out of nowhere. “Sorry, baby, my bad. So, have you been busy at work lately? Anything tricky going on?”
“No! I’ve got it all under control!” Whitney replied curtly.
Klein narrowed his eyes, feeling something was off.
Is Sabrina picking on her again?’ he wondered.

‘No way, she’s way too busy dealing with my brother’s side chick to mess with anyone else right now, Klein thought.
“Honey, did I do something to make you mad? If I messed up, just let me know, okay? Talk to me,” Klein said, his voice gentle and a little desperate.
He sounded so humble, almost like he was pleading with her.
Whitney snorted, “Did you know that Lena’s father cheated too? And it wasn’t just a one-time thing!”
Klein froze.
‘Wait, what does that have to do with me?’ he thought, totally baffled.
“I had no idea,” Klein replied, sounding genuinely clueless.
Whitney put her hands on her hips and shot Klein a glare, her voice sharp, “Your two brothers both cheated. So, what, is your turn next?”
Klein just felt totally wronged.
“Baby, I would rather die than cheat on you,” Klein said, sounding defensive and pleading.
(Wait, why does that line sound so familiar… Dustin might wonder.)
“Seriously, Baby, I’m not the cheating type. I mean, I’ve been single for thirty-three years. Does that sound like someone who cheats? If I ever did, you could take my life, okay?” Klein said, his voice full of sincerity.
Whitney finally started to calm down, though she honestly had no idea where all that anger had come from in the first pla
“Fine, I’ll be watching you. But Klein, if you ever dare to cheat, I’m taking our daughter and finding her a new dad,” Whitne said, her tone half-joking, half-serious.
Klein’s temples throbbed. “No way. She’s not getting a new dad. Not happening.”
Whitney’s last bit of attitude just fizzled out, swallowed up by his sudden kiss.
Emily, dressed in a shabby gray prison uno, w.
She’d never thought she’d end up in a hellhole like this.
Her arrival right away drew everyone’s attention.
She looked baby-faced, like she’d never seen a rough day in her life, an easy target.
“Hey, what did you do to land yourself in here?” one of the big girls jeered.
Emily just kept quiet.
She slipped into a corner and kept to herself.
“Hey, girl, our boss is talking to you!” one of the inmates snapped.
Emily looked at her bed, which was covered with stuff that clearly wasn’t hers. She bit her lips, trying to hold back her frustration, and asked, “Whose things are these?”
The woman glared at her. “They’re mine. Got a problem with that?”
“Move it,” Emily said, her tone icy.
She was so over this place.
But after getting slapped three times in a row, the woman everyone called Red just smirked and said, “No, I’m not moving.
So what?”
