“Yes! Evan, we’ve indulged you long enough!”
“Don’t wait until the cooling–off period ends to come crawling back. By then, it’ll be too late!”
Roxanne and Anya’s cold, imperious voices rose right behind Hazel’s.
A thin, icy smile tugged at Evan’s lips. ‘Those three sure don’t disappoint. There isn’t a hint of remorse, not even a hint of humility. Instead, all I get are more arrogant orders. Yet, they expected me to return?‘
For a moment there, he had almost believed they might have changed.
“Mrs. Norwood, who’s your husband talking to?” Artemisia asked curiously beside them. She was sharp enough not to call him Mr. Norwood or her mentor. Rather, she went straight to “your husband.”
Sylvie already knew who it must have been upon seeing the scowl on his face. Still, she only replied coolly, “No idea. It’s probably some stray mutt. It’s funny how a stray would dare call my husband and bother him!”
Then, she strode forward and abruptly hung up the call.
“That worthless b*stard actually hung up on me!” Hazel snapped and hurled her phone onto the couch.
Roxanne and Anya’s faces turned grim with matching fury. Meanwhile, Zeke looked unsettled. “Did any of you hear something just now? It sounded like someone said ‘husband‘…”
“Husband?”
The three women exchanged strange looks.
“No way. How would we not hear that?”
“I did hear someone insulting us, though!” Anya suddenly said, her expression shifting.
Zeke’s expression flickered again. He didn’t say anything, but he knew he hadn’t misheard. Someone definitely called Evan their husband.
‘Who would call him that? His girlfriend? Is Evan… seeing someone new?
The moment the thought surfaced, Zeke froze in disbelief. He knew Evan was determined to cut ties with Hazel, Roxanne, and Anya. However, he hadn’t realized the man already had a new partner.

If that were the case, Evan would never return to the three of them. And that was very, very bad for him.
“Hazel, if Evan wants to act like an ungrateful brat, then forget it. You should just finalize the divorce once the cooling–off period is over.”
“Yeah. Who does he think he is, hanging up on us? He really thinks he can survive without us?” Roxanne and Anya grumbled one after another.
Zeke’s expression grew even more twisted. ‘He already has someone new calling him husband, and you still think he’ll obediently crawl to your ‘loving‘ embrace?‘
“In that case, there’s only one solution left for Zeke’s illness…” Roxanne began, hesitating.
Hazel immediately motioned for her and Anya to follow her to the front courtyard. Only then did Roxanne speak. “I’ll beg my family. There are so many members within the Leighton family. So, someone has to know what to do.”
Hazel and Anya’s expressions shifted. “But aren’t you on terrible terms with them? They almost expelled you from the family tree…”
