Chapter 115 The Price of Returning Home
“A surprise? Something we have always wanted?” Wendy’s eyes flickered with confusion at once.
The other Leighton family representatives exchanged baffled looks. ‘Is Ms. Stone feeding us empty promises now? Why is she talking about surprises?‘
“Ms. Stone, you must be joking.” Wendy forced a polite smile once she recovered her composure. “We only want the ancient formula in your hands. We came here with sincerity. There’s no need for surprises.”
“Alright, I agree. Regardless, you’ll still get the surprise,” Artemisia said without hesitation. She could clearly see that Wendy didn’t believe a word of it.
The real problem was that even she didn’t know what “surprise” Evan was referring to, so she couldn’t assuage the other woman’s doubts.
“However, you also need to agree to one more condition–Roxanne must be allowed to return to the family, and none of you is allowed to target her again.”
The words dropped like thunder.
The Leighton representatives stared at her with eyes wide in shock.
Roxanne was a criminal in their eyes. After all, they wouldn’t have fallen from grace if she hadn’t stolen their ancestral remedy three years ago.
Nevertheless, Wendy quickly connected the dots–Artemisia and Roxanne were classmates. So, she had no choice but to accept Artemisia’s terms, no matter how reluctant she was to execute them, especially since Artemisia had agreed to the ancient formula collaboration.
Roxanne was still begging at the gates of the Leighton Estate. She had been there for hours. She was about to lose consciousness when a voice sounded beside her. “You can get up now. Grandfather has accepted you.”
She didn’t lift her head to see who spoke. The words alone shattered every ounce of willpower she had left. The relief hit so hard that her vision went black, and she fainted.
When she woke again, she was already inside the estate. Unfortunately, Thaddeus and every member of the Leighton family were glaring at her with cold, hostile eyes.
“Roxanne, you’re really lucky to have a classmate like Ms. Stone!”
“We wouldn’t care whether you lived or died if it weren’t for her!”
Thaddeus let out a harsh snort. “Hmph! You went to beg Ms. Stone, didn’t you? Well, you got what you wanted, but don’t celebrate just yet. I only allowed you to return–I never said we forgave you. You’re still a traitor and a disgrace. Keep an eye on her.
“She’s not allowed to interfere in any family matters!”
Due to her track record, everyone in the Leighton family watched Roxanne like a hawk. However, her parents, Calvin Leighton and Macy Chenier, became emotional as they yanked her into their arms.
They felt both relieved and distressed. “You’re home… and that’s all that matters.”
Roxanne still didn’t understand what was going on. She hadn’t asked Artemisia for help. Still, she shoved the thought aside.
There were more pressing matters.
She had Hazel and Anya bring Zeke to the Leighton Estate’s rear courtyard, where a network of recovery halls stretched across
