At the Solberg Residence…

“This child… Why is he so stubborn?”

Stefan and Cynthia were beyond anxious after hearing that Evan refused to return.

“If it comes down to it, I’ll send someone to drag him back,” Stefan snapped.

But Cynthia insisted, “The one who caused the rift has to be the one to fix it. Evan cut ties because of Hazel. If he’s coming home, she should be the one to bring him back.”

She dialed her daughter at once. “Hazel Solberg, how long are you planning to keep this up? Do you realize you’re going to get Evan killed?”

On the other end of the line, Hazel’s mind went completely blank.

Chapter 124 When Danger Turns Into Leverage

‘I’m going to get Evan killed?’

She snapped back to herself at once. “Mom, did something happen to Evan?”

Cynthia immediately explained that the drakeblood gemstone had been exposed as a fake, but she hid the fact that Evan had severed ties with the family.

“L”

Once she understood what had happened, shock rolled through her in waves. This was bad-worse than she’d expected. In Hazel’s mind, since Evan changed his last name to Solberg, Cain’s threat would fade. She hadn’t imagined there was still more trouble waiting behind it.

“The drakeblood gemstone is fake? Was it swapped? How could Evan possibly dare?’

Three years ago, Evan had stolen the gemstone and nearly been beaten to death by Cain. Now that the gemstone had been proven counterfeit, Hazel naturally assumed he was responsible again.

“Hazel, I’m begging you-go to Evan and bring him home. Only we can protect him now!” Cynthia pleaded, her voice shaking. She sounded terrified that Hazel would refuse.

Stefan’s tone was harsher than ever. “I don’t care what happened between you and Evan or how things have been recently. His life is in danger, and you must bring him home.”

The pressure was unmistakable. If Hazel said no, Stefan would explode.

Hazel stayed quiet for a moment, then finally answered, “Got it.”

She could feel how tense and serious her parents were. She understood the danger Evan was in. But the moment she hung up, she burst out laughing-loud, unrestrained, nothing like her usual cold composure.

“What’s got you laughing like that, Hazel?” Roxanne and Anya came over, curiosity written all over their faces. “Evan’s in big trouble. My parents just told me Mr. Solomon’s drakeblood gemstone turned out to be fake.”

“What? A fake?”

“Evan’s doomed then! Mr. Solomon will definitely go after him.”

Roxanne and Anya went stiff. In the next room, Zeke-who’d been listening-also froze, eyes wide like he couldn’t believe what he’d just heard.

“But Hazel, Evan’s in danger. Even if you’re not worried, how are you still laughing?” Anya asked. The news had made her tense instinctively. Roxanne also looked uneasy.

If the gemstone was fake, Cain would naturally suspect Evan. This time no one would dare step in. There would be no repeat of the protection Evan received three years ago. He was done for.

Hazel curled her lips into a cold smile. “My mom said Mr. Solomon only confirmed the gemstone is fake–he doesn’t have evidence proving Evan did it, so he won’t make a move right away. Which means my family can still keep him alive. And that also means he won’t dare cut ties with us anymore, let alone divorce me.”

“So that’s how it is!”

Roxanne and Anya finally understood.

“So now his life is basically in your hands. He won’t have a choice.“

“Look at him, acting all high and mighty with us before and saying he’d fight us to the end! Now, he’ll bune to come crawling back.”
