Sorry Too Late (by J.J. Twelve) novel Chapter 167

Chapter 167 The Day Before the End

Roxanne and Anya exchanged a glance, noticing the smiles on each of their faces. The situation was far more serious than they had imagined. Evan now had no way to escape Cain’s pursuit. His only option

was to turn to Hazel.

And that was perfect.

They had finally cornered Evan with nowhere to rum. Only when pushed to the edge would he finally snap out of it, recognize his mistakes, and apologize. All they had to do was wait, and Evan would come crawling to them soon enough..

The next moment, Hazel’s phone rang. It was her parents. As soon as she picked up, Cynthia was already crying.

“Hazel, this is terrible! The mayor issued a public statement, and the deputy mayor has distanced himself, too. We were planning to ask him to step in and save Evan Cynthia’s voice trembled between

sobs.

1 thought we would be enough to keep Evan safe, but I never expected this! Every powerful figure in Silverton is refusing to speak up for him. What do we do? We’ve failed Evan… we didn’t protect him at all!”

After so many influential figures publicly washed their hands of the situation, Stefan and Cynthia had broken down on the spot. They had long treated Evan like their own son, and the quilt from having cut ties with him in the past only added to the weight

They had been determined to protect him this time, yet things had spiraled out of control.

When Hazel heard them cry, she only grinned triumphantly instead of showing a trace of panic. “Don’t worry, he’ll be fine.”

Then, she hung up.

She had prepared for this long ago. The more dangerous the situation became for Evan, the calmer they felt. Her family couldn’t protect him, but she could. Evan would have no choice but to bow his head and apologize. The three heiresses believed this wholeheartedly

Meanwhile, word reached the Norwood family as well, and James gathered everyone for a meeting.

He chuckled. “Mr. Solomon hasn’t even arrived yet, and he’s already scared every powerful figure in Silverton into backing away? They’re terrified of being associated with Evan. Everyone knows Mr. Solomon is coming to deal with him personally.”

Josephine smirked as she gloated. There won’t be anyone protecting him this time. The drakeblood gemstone mess has finally died down. Evan took the fall for all of it. A perfect ending.

The triplets-Alice, Beverly, and Coleme-were busy with their own affairs and utterly indifferent. To them, this whole ordeal had simply removed a pressing danger for their family. They didn’t care whether Evan

lived or died at Cain’s hands.

In their eyes, Evan was nothing more than a stranger without a drop of shared blood. And who would lose sleep over a stranger’s well-being?

They barely had any reaction to Evan’s future downfall. Still, it was also the cruelest reaction because they simply didn’t care. All past bonds and moments of laughter might as well have been nothing more than a fleeting dream.

“Everyone, how about we invite Evan home for dinner tomorrow?” Darius suddenly suggested, smiling

brightly.

“Huh?”

Everyone looked at him in surprise, even the triplets raised their heads.

Darius kept the same innocent, harmless smile on his face. “Well, tomorrow is Evan’s last day. I don’t want him leaving this world all alone. I’m sure he’d like to come home one more time. So I thought we could all sit down and share a meal with him. You know, to see him off.”

Everyone started cackling when they heard his suggestion.

After all, they were confident that Evan was going to die and that tomorrow would be his last day on

earth.
