Chapter 219 A Meeting With Opposite Expectations
The public backlash had put enormous pressure on Evan as well.
Just as he was wondering how to deal with it, Hazel suddenly contacted him and asked to meet at the courthouse.
Evan froze. “The courthouse? Is she trying to finalize the divorce early? That’s fantastic!
A look of pure delight instantly spread across his face. “Alright! I’ll be there right away!”
He didn’t even bother hanging up the phone before hurriedly changing his clothes.
Seeing Evan rush around with such excitement, Estelle asked curiously, “Evan, what happened? What made you this happy and in such a hurry?”
“Great news! I’ll tell you when I get back!” Evan said, clearly unable to wait.
Meanwhile, when Hazel heard how quickly Evan had agreed, her expression changed slightly.
Ever since their relationship fell apart, whenever she asked him to meet her, he would always avoid it or drag things out. Never once had he agreed this readily. It seemed Roxanne had been right-he really did not want the divorce.
Calling him to the courthouse was an obvious hint. She was planning to revoke the divorce application. So, of course, he rushed
over without hesitation.
“See? I told you he’d agree right away,” Roxanne said with a smile from the back seat of the car. “But what happens next isn’t really something we should be present for. Hazel, it’s better if you handle this alone.”
“Alright…”
After Roxanne and Anya left, Hazel let out a long breath.
All three of them assumed Evan had so readily agreed to come to the courthouse because he believed Hazel intended to cancel the divorce. In reality, it was the exact opposite.
Evan thought Hazel wanted to finalize the divorce early. That was why he had rushed over so eagerly.
He was practically ecstatic. In fact, he even found himself thinking Hazel wasn’t quite as annoying as he’d believed.
Evan didn’t even bother driving. He activated the Ninefold Arcane Arts and shot across the city at full speed, arriving at the courthouse entrance almost like a streak of light, for fear that Hazel might change her mind.
The moment he saw her, he walked over with a broad smile.
The sight left Hazel completely stunned. ‘He’s already here? Surely, that wasn’t even five minutes. Was he already wanting somewhere near the courthouse, just hoping I’d call him? That must be it. Roxanne and Anya were right he still wants to be
with me.’
“Shall we go in?” Hazel said, her tone noticeably less cold than before.
Seeing the smile on Evan’s face, Hazel felt her vision blur for a moment. For a briet instant, her thoughts drifted back three ve
to when she had first brought Evan into the Solberg family.
Back then, their time together had been genuinely pleasant Simple Warm The way Evan smiled back then was exactly the same as the smile on his face now.
Hazel’s gaze grew more complicated. She fell silent, memories of Evan flooding back one after another

When Evan faced danger, she felt nervous, anxious, even afraid. And no one felt it more strongly than she did.
The day Cain arrived in Silverton and Evan disappeared, she had panicked like she was losing her mind.
Shouldn’t she be unbothered? Wasn’t he just a replacement? So why would she feel nervous? Anxious? Fearful? Terrified of losing him? Was it really just because Zeke needed his blood transfusions? No. That was nothing more than an excuse she told herself.
Evan was far more important to her than she ever admitted.
Looking at Evan again, Hazel hesitated before speaking. “Evan, I…”
But the apology stuck in her throat. No matter how hard she tried, the words simply wouldn’t come out.
Evan, however, noticed something off about her mood. “What’s wrong? Is there something you want to tell me?”
“L…” Hazel froze.
‘You know exactly why I asked you to meet me at the courthouse-why are you still asking?’
But it felt as if a fishbone were lodged in her throat. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t say it.
“What exactly are you trying to say?” Evan asked again, his expression slowly turning serious.
Hazel was acting strangely. Her usual cold arrogance was gone-that air of looking down on everyone from above had completely disappeared.
