Chapter 220 The Divorce That Wasn’t
But Evan didn’t care. They were getting divorced anyway.
“If you don’t want to say it, forget it. Let’s go inside first.”
Just thinking about the divorce being finalized made him feel excited, but that excitement looked completely different in Hazel’s eyes.
‘He really doesn’t want to divorce me… Look how happy he is.’
In the end, Hazel still couldn’t force herself to say the apology out loud. However, seeing the excitement on Evan’s face eased much of the turmoil in her heart. What replaced it was a strange sense of calm-almost a kind of justification.
‘As long as I cancel the divorce application, that’s already an explanation for Evan. At worst, things will just return to the way they were before.”
With that thought in mind, Hazel walked in with him.
“Hello, what business are you two here for?” the staff member asked politely.
Hazel took half a step back and remained silent. Her implication was obvious—she would never be the one to say they were canceling the divorce application.
Who spoke first in this situation mattered. If she said it herself, the meaning would change. Outsiders would think she had bowed her head. But someone as proud as her could never do that. Even if she was wrong, she would never lower herself.
If the words were going to be said, they had to come from Evan. That was where she drew the line, so she began subtly signaling him with her eyes, urging him to speak.
Evan didn’t react at all, though.
The staff member reminded them again, “So… what service do you need today?”
Left with no choice, Hazel whispered quietly, “You say it. I shouldn’t…”
“Oh, we’re here to finalize our divorce,” Evan said cheerfully. “We filed a divorce application here over 20 days ago. Today we’re officially getting divorced.”
Hazel’s mind exploded. ‘What? Divorce? Not revoke the divorce?’
She stood there in complete shock, staring at Evan as if she had just seen a ghost.
“What? Was I wrong?” he asked when he noticed the way she was looking at him.
‘Isn’t this why you asked to meet me here?’ he thought.
“What nonsense are you talking about? Have you lost your mind?” Hazel glared at him furiously, an inexplicable surge of anger rising in her chest.
She truly could not understand what was going through his head. She had called him here to take back the divorce. And he had actually suggested finalizing it?
“Ms. Solberg and Mr. Norwood, correct?” the staff member said after checking their records. “Yes, you did submit a divorce application 25 days ago. However, the one-month cooling off period hasn’t ended yet. There are still five days remaining Are you certain you want to proceed with the divorce? If you’ve made up your minds, we can issue the divorce certificate.
“I’ve made up my
“Evan Norwood!”
Evan was just about to agree, excitement all over his face, when Hazel suddenly roared and cut him off

The entire courthouse fell silent. Everyone turned to look at her.
Hazel’s eyes were red, and her chest rose and fell with heavy breaths. Even the staff member was startled by the look on her face.
“I’m sorry,” she said through clenched teeth. “He doesn’t get to decide. We’re not divorcing.”
Evan blinked in confusion. “What do you mean we’re not divorcing? Didn’t you call me here to–”
“Come outside with me!”
She refused to let him finish. Grabbing his arm, she dragged him outside.
The moment they stepped out, Hazel exploded.
“Evan, have you lost your mind? Who told you to bring up divorce? Do you even understand what will happen to you if we divorce? Cain will send people after you!
“The Solomon family is waiting for exactly this chance to make an example of you–you’ll die, do you understand? And who told you that me calling you to the courthouse meant we were getting divorced?”
Hazel was genuinely furious now, shouting without restraint. Even passersby near the courthouse entrance turned to stare.
Evan, meanwhile, remained completely bewildered. “Wait… you called me here… Wasn’t it to finalize the divorce early?”
The anger inside her flared all over again. Her eyes blazed. Without hesitation, she raised her hand and slapped him across the
