Chapter 221 Divorce Denied
Chapter 221 Divorce Denied
Evan caught Hazel’s wrist before the slap could land.
She cried out, wincing. “Let go! I’m going to hit you!”
Yet, her fury dissipated as soon as she saw the look on his face.
His expression was so thunderous that it sent a shiver racing down her spine. A strange, icy fear slithered through her, leaving her trembling.
For a heartbeat, she actually thought that he would end her right there.
When she finally fell silent, Evan stared her down with piercing eyes.
“So, you dragged me to the courthouse, but it’s not because you want to finalize the divorce?” he hiss What the hell, Hazel? Are you messing with me?”
He had counted down to this divorce like a prisoner scratching marks on a cell wall, desperate for
release.
Once he signed his name on that piece of paper, he would finally be free.
It should have happened a month ago, as he had already cut ties with the Solbergs since then.
Alas, Hazel had insisted on the so-called “cooling-off period,” forcing the process to drag on for anothe
month.
So, he had been waking up each day, hoping it would be the last for a whole month.
That was why he had foolishly believed that Hazel had finally seen reason when she called him to the
courthouse.
He assumed that she was ready to end things and was even eager to end things sooner than planned.
Instead, she arrived only to withdraw the application.
His jaw clenched, muscles rigid with frustration.
‘Cancel it? Just like that? And I’m supposed to be okay with that?
‘I’ve been waiting for this divorce for ages, and now she thinks she can take it all back after saying one sentence? Does she think a divorce is a trivial matter? A joke?’
Hazel tried to speak, but his lethal glare froze the words in her throat.
The air between them seemed to crystallize, sharp and frigid.
Her throat locked up, trapping her words inside.

“What are they doing? Why are they still standing at the entrance?”
“And why does Evan look so angry? Shouldn’t he be happy that Hazel doesn’t want the divorce?”
Roxanne and Anya sat by the window inside a nearby cafe across the street, gazing outside in cor
They had stayed behind, choosing to linger and watch the drama unfold.
However, Hazel and Evan were still by the entrance, locked in a heated standoff.
“Roxanne, this isn’t how you said it would go,” Anya murmured, turning to her.
The plan had seemed foolproof.
He was supposed to leap at the chance to reconcile with them. Once Hazel called off the divorce, t assumed that he would surely fall back under her sway.
But now, they looked like strangers. Actually, they were standing so far apart and glaring as if they w sworn enemies.
“That… doesn’t add up,” Roxanne muttered, brow furrowed. “Where did it all go wrong?”
Still, neither of them moved.
All they could do was sit there and keep watching.
Hazel drew in a slow breath. “Evan, we need to talk.”
The overwhelming pressure surrounding her finally subsided, helping her regain her balance after he appeared moments earlier to be on the verge of destroying her.
She pulled him a few steps from the entrance, guiding him toward the roadside.
She began quietly. “I owe you an apology regarding the banquet. I shouldn’t have left you alone to chas after Zeke. I shouldn’t have done that.”
Still, her voice stayed eerily calm, almost detached. Evan noticed the lack of real remorse right off the b
“I have no idea how Zeke even found out,” she went on. “But I just had to check on him first. I know you were angry, maybe hurt, or even scared. I’m here now, alright? I’m trying to make things right.”
She held his gaze. “We don’t need to argue about the past anymore. Whatever mistakes you made before… let’s just forget them. And the divorce agreement? We’ll cancel it. I won’t let Mr. Solomon touch you.”
Her voice grew gentle. “We’re still married, Evan. We can return to the way things were.”
In Hazel’s mind, she had already done more than enough.
She reached out, her fingers seeking his hand.

Evan had always been easy to sway. A softer voice and a little kindness usually won him over.
She had never bothered in the past. So, this was the first time in three years she had actually lowered pride, hoping he would notice her effort and be moved.
Her fingers hovered inches from his when Evan suddenly chuckled in disbelief.
“Husband and wife?” His eyes were filled with contempt as he spat, “Who the hell wants to be marrie you? You make me sick.”
