Chapter 222 Walking Away
Chapter 222 Walking Away
‘Smack!’ Evan slapped Hazel’s hand away before she could reach him.
Hazel froze.
Roxanne and Anya were also stunned as they stared at the scene across the street.
Anya choked on her coffee and spat it out, her eyes widening in shock. ‘No way! Did Evan really re Hazel? Did that actually happen? I can’t believe it.’
Hazel didn’t react immediately.
When his actions finally sank in, her expression twisted with anger and disbelief, mixed with a trad bitter amusement.
“I make you sick?” she asked slowly, her finger pointing at herself with disbelief in her eyes. “I disg you?”
Those words had clearly struck a nerve.
“Yes,” Evan answered flatly. “You’ve dragged this divorce out way longer than it has to be.”
Hazel let out a hollow laugh. She was so furious that she couldn’t even find the right words to conve what she was feeling.
‘Does he even know why I’m withdrawing the divorce? I’ve already apologized for the banquet. What more does he expect? I’m offering him a way out. He should just take it!”
“Evan, what exactly are you trying to pull here?” Hazel snapped. “I’ve already apologized. Are you really going to keep making a scene?”
She now knew what his plan was.
Evan was pushing her. He was deliberately taking advantage of her hesitation about the divorce and using it against her.
The tables had turned.
Evan had always been sharp, especially when it came to turning circumstances to his advantage.
As the realization settled in, Hazel quickly connected the pieces in her mind.
‘Zeke made a scene at the banquet, and Evan ended up looking like the victim. That was the first toe be found a way to use that humiliation to his advantage. Then, he confronted Zeke, making everyone turn on me and ruining any chance we had of being together.
‘Now, he’s using Mr. Solomon as a means to make me bow. This bastard is guilt-tripping me, pushing me harder to bend to his whim. He knows I won’t leave him, and I won’t let him die. Finally, he’s using the threat of divorce as a weapon against me.’

Evan sneered and asked, “Wasn’t the divorce your idea? Now that I’ve agreed to it, you suddenly want it anymore?”
His response only confirmed Hazel’s suspicions.
‘He’s pushing my buttons, trying to rattle my nerves and make me flinch. Still, that’s just a smoke for what he truly wants. I know what he wants now. He wants me to bend. He wants me to give i completely than I ever did with Zeke.
‘He craves total obedience, no matter the cost.’
Hazel’s chest tightened, anger burning in her eyes. ‘Give in? Not a chance!’
She hissed frostily, “Evan, don’t get greedy. You should be thankful you’re still alive.”
She looked at him like he was a joke. “To think that you want me to obey you? Please! Know your p I’m not canceling the divorce.”
Then, Hazel turned and walked away without so much as a backward glance.
She had no reason to stay after figuring out Evan’s play.
A cold smile appeared as she thought, ‘He wants to keep his life and get Mr. Solomon off his back. Y he still thinks he can control me when I have all the cards. Really? I’ve already apologized, which was act of generosity on my part. Yet, he keeps asking for more. 1
‘He’ll just walk all over me like I’m some doormat if I give him what he wants.’
Hazel felt a surge of vindictive satisfaction rise inside her.
‘My response must have caught him off guard. He probably thought I’d withdraw the divorce. He’s like still stunned to silence right now.’
The thought sent a satisfying shiver of revenge through her.
She was tempted to sneak a glance behind her for a fleeting second, just to catch the look of disbelief
on his face.
