Chapter 224 The Warning

Hazel shot them a cold glare. “Do I look like I’m joking?”

She never wanted to sink to Evan’s level. She went to the courthouse with the big picture in mind threw her efforts in her face and made it all seem pointless.

‘Why should I go out of my way to pander to his hoity-toity ass when he isn’t worthy of my attenti Ridiculous. He’s nothing without me. Yet, he dares to threaten me with the divorce? He’s the one should be shaking in his boots. Hmph!’

“Evan will pay for his arrogance,” Hazel spoke coldly. “What happens today doesn’t matter. What m is the results four days from now. I won’t withdraw the divorce petition unless he comes begging his tail between his legs.

“Otherwise, we’ll go through with it.” Her lips curled in disdain. “Let’s see if he still dares threaten n then.”

Roxanne and Anya shared a glance, understanding that Hazel was firmly standing her ground.

Then, Roxanne asked cautiously, “What if Evan actually dies?”

“He won’t,” Hazel replied immediately. “I already prepared a fake death certificate for him. Did you fo my backup plan?”

The words hit like lightning, and Roxanne and Anya froze in place.

‘That’s right. Hazel had prepared everything long ago. She already has the fake death certificate read and the suicide note, which Evan was supposed to use before Mr. Solomon arrived in Silverton. However, the plan became unnecessary when Evan cleared his name.

‘But things were different now. Evan had gone too far, and that plan would finally be put to use.”

Anya let out a forced chuckle. “So, that’s why you weren’t worried about his decision. You already had everything ready to go.”

“Gabriel can’t really hurt him if that plan is executed flawlessly,” Roxanne added. “Besides, it also mean that you’ll be wearing the pants in your relationship with Evan.”

Both women nodded, but a shiver ran down their spines.

They reflected, ‘It’s a good thing that Hazel came prepared. Still, she probably never thought the fake death certificate would actually come in handy.’

Hazel scoffed. “He brought this on himself. That fake death certificate was never meant to be used. None of this would have happened if he’d just listened to me and withdrawn the divorce. Alas, he insisted on pushing his luck. So, I won’t let him get away with slighting me.”

Her eyes grew colder. ‘If he keeps this up, he’ll spend the rest of his life hiding in the shadows. He’ll suffer a fate worse than death.’

Chapter 224 The Warning

The three heiresses tittered in vindictive glee.

They thought Evan believed he had discovered their weakness when the truth was anything but. If anything, they still had an ace up their sleeves that they simply hadn’t played yet.

Soon, the three heiresses headed home.

Halfway through the drive, Anya suddenly hit the brakes. The car jerked to a stop.

“There’s something in that alley,” she muttered.

In the shadowy corner ahead, a form was sprawled on the ground.

Curiosity drew them nearer.

When they came closer, all three of them froze.

It was a corpse.

The body was riddled with wounds and torn apart beyond recognition. Rats gnawed at the flesh while flies swarmed in the air. A foul stench filled the narrow alley.

“Ah!” The three women recoiled in horror. None of them had ever seen a corpse in person.

Hazel forced herself to step forward. Her face changed when she took a better look at the corpse. ‘Sh took a slow breath. “I know him. He’s Evan’s uncle… his father’s fourth brother.”

Roxanne and Anya sucked in a sharp breath. ‘Holy hell! The dead man belongs to the Norwood family?

More corpses were scattered in the same gruesome state further down the alley. The three heiresses didn’t have to take a closer look to know that those were also members of the Norwood family.

So many Norwoods were already dead, even though only two days had gone by.

Hazel stared at the corpses.

Then, she laughed, the sound carrying a chilling edge.

“Didn’t I tell you? The Norwood family’s fate will be Evan’s fate,” she murmured. “There are only four days left. Let’s see if he still dares to talk about divorce after seeing this. Take pictures and send them to Evan
