Sorry Too Late (by J.J. Twelve) novel Chapter 25

Chapter 25 Debts to be settled

From her bloodshot eyes, Evan saw fury, madness, and something else tangled deep beneath it. Even so, he spoke softly. “It can all be repaid. Every last bit of it.”

“What?” Anya froze.

The three heiresses all turned to look at Evan at once, their hearts racing..

Evan lifted his head and smiled at them as if it were the most natural thing in the world. “Ms. Leighton, I owe you a priceless life -saving drug. I’ll pay it back. And Ms. Golden, Mr. Wells slapped your father thrice publicly. I’ll make Mr. Wells return every single slap.”

Leighton Pharmaceuticals was a pharmaceutical giant, widely renowned throughout Silverton.

Roxanne had once been the obvious choice to become Leighton Pharmaceuticals’ heir apparent. But to save Evan, she had gone against her family’s wishes and acted on her own, stealing the clan’s treasured life-saving drug from the family vault and forcing it down Evan’s throat when he was on the brink of death.

Evan survived, but the price she paid was severe.

Roxanne was heavily punished, and the right of succession to Leighton Pharmaceuticals was handed to her cousin instead. Yet she had never cared. Back then, as long as Evan lived, she was willing to give up everything else.

And to placate the powerful figure Evan had offended, not only had 150 million been spent smoothing things over, but nfluential figures had also been invited to act as intermediaries. Among them, Anya’s father had personally gone to seek out Mr. Wells of Silverton’s underworld, only to be slapped thrice in front of everyone, becoming the butt of endless jokes.

The three heiresses had all shown him great kindness. Evan had never forgotten any of it. That was why he had promised to epay every debt in turn. Yet it was precisely his calm that drove Anya and Roxanne completely over the edge.

‘Repay it? With what?” Anya shouted in rage. “Are you going to conjure up another life-saving drug, or make Mr. Wells stick out

is face so my dad can slap him? If I’d known Zeke would come back, I never would’ve used that life-saving drug on you!”

Roxanne broke down crying, her tear-filled eyes drifting to Zeke’s pale face. “If we’d saved it for Zeke, he’d have been cured ages ago!”

At that, she closed her eyes tightly, tears sliding down her cheeks.

From Roxanne’s expression, Evan sensed a deep, crushing regret. He bared his teeth in a calm smile. “No need to regret it. Everything you did for me, I’ll return to you.”

Whether it was restoring the drug or making Mr. Wells suffer at the hands of Anya’s father, he could do if all. He just needed time. The Ninefold Arcane Arts were his greatest foundation and his ultimate trump card.

“Huh…”

But Anya and Roxanne said nothing more, only staring at him with cold, mocking smiles. Clearly, they didn’t believe a single word he said. If Evan truly had that kind of ability, they wouldn’t have needed to protect him three years ago.

“Roxanne, don’t say that. After all, no one knows what the future holds.” Zeke stepped in to smooth things over, deliberately putting on a weak front. He looked at Evan with an earnest tone, yet his eyes brimmed with provocation. “Hazel, Roxanne, Anya, I’m really grateful that Evan could be by your sides in the last three years… It’s almost like I never left at all.”

The implication was unmistakable-Evan was nothing more than a substitute, and no matter how hard he tried in the last three years, the moment Zeke returned, the love of the three heiresses could be reclaimed without effort.

“That’s enough. Since Zeke has interceded for you, we won’t pursue this any further.” Hazel looked at Evan coldly. “We won’t blame you for following us, and we’ll forgive you for hitting Zeke. Take a month to calm down. Once you’re done throwing a tantrum, come back. Do you really think you can survive without us?”
