Chapter 287 Humiliated

Evan’s question thundered in Thaddeus’ head, rocking his mind. He wanted to scream in response, but nothing came out of his throat. Sadie and Wendy nearly fainted, a heavy weight forcing them to their knees. The question struck where it hurt most.

Their family was shooting way out of its league. So was Roxanne. They should’ve realized it sooner, Evan was an incredibly capable man. After all, the whole city’s best women had worn wedding gowns on his divorce day, waiting for the moment to be finalized.

Roxanne had no chance. Evan was far too out of her league. Besides, he’d refused the marriage when he returned the life-saving drug. Sadly, the Leightons had been too drunk with glee to notice.

Plus, Roxanne did sign the marriage contract, so they thought they could use that to their advantage. They thought a piece of paper could force him to be a part of their family.

Evan couldn’t care less. Even if he did want to marry someone, any single woman in this room was far better than Roxanne. Anyone who wasn’t out of their mind knew Roxanne and Evan’s marriage would never happen.

The Leightons wouldn’t have become the laughingstock, but they were blinded by greed. Thaddeus

wanted to hide in a hole.

Sadie still didn’t want to give up. She tried to use that contract as leverage. “I know Roxanne is shooting way out of her league, but you did sign a contract. Besides, she’s not as bad as you think. Hazel’s been a bad influence on her.

“She just hung out with that girl too much. You’ve seen how gentle Roxanne was. If you marry Roxanne, we’ll make sure she cuts Hazel and Anya off. She’ll be the gentle housewife she was always meant to be.

There was anticipation in Sadie’s eyes. Evan was too good to give up on. Yes, she knew that she was being shameless, but there was no harm in trying.

Just then, someone scoffed. A lithe silhouette stepped forth. It was none other than Jememiah. She looked at Sadie like the woman was a maggot deserving of pity. “What a hard sell, but is she better than

me?”

“What?” Sadie was flummoxed. Jememiah had a perfect body and a face to die for. Her air was regal and far better than Roxanne’s. Her father was the Director of Security himself. She was far superior to

Roxanne in every aspect.

“Ooh, a competition? Mind if I join?” To their surprise, Ginevra joined as well.

“I…” That stunned Sadie further.

Thaddeus and Wendy nearly blacked out. Ginevra was on par with Jememiah. Of course, she, too, was

superior to Roxanne.

“Don’t forget about me,” said Serena. “My father’s the Director-General of Charity Organizations. And
