Chapter 301 A Desperate Gamble Pays Off
“It worked!”
Zeke’s whole body shook with excitement when the phone rang. He felt around his back and found his shirt soaked through with sweat.
One overseas call was enough to make him act like this.
No one knew just how much that call meant. It carried every last shred of Zeke’s hope.
Since he was an unaffiliated outsider, he had to jump through countless hoops to contact the organization. He had to crack layers of firewalls while dodging Draganland’s network surveillance just to get in touch with them.
That alone was enough to scare most people off.
One wrong move, and Draganland’s most advanced tech would trace him in seconds.
And even if he somehow made it through and sent a signal, the Black Sun wasn’t obligated to respond.
They wouldn’t grant every request-and they definitely wouldn’t waste time on someone of no interest or value to them.
Zeke had been gambling. He was betting that he still held value in their eyes. He was betting they would notice his signal and choose to help.
The pressure from all sides had twisted his mind beyond recognition. He was desperate and completely unhinged.
He was a man with nothing left to lose, but this time, he had won.
The organization had reached back out to him. It was like finding a needle in a haystack. Luck was on his side after all.
He answered the call immediately.
A synthesized voice came through the line. “No. 47, we have personnel in Silverton. If you need anything, you can contact them.”
‘What?’ Zeke’s heart slammed against his chest. He nearly dropped the phone. “They are already in Silverton? What are they planning? There must be a mission here.’
He let out a breath of relief.
For the first time in his life, he felt something close to belonging something solid enough to stand on.
He wasn’t alone.
What did he have to fear now that the organization was in Silverton?
“And we’re aware of your condition. The newly developed genetic serum is nearing completion. Your illness will be cured in about half a month, and possibly as soon as 10 days, No. 47.”
Zeke’s mind exploded.
Excitement. Shock. Disbelief. Joy.
All of it surged through him at once.
He could hardly believe what he’d just heard.

His illness would soon be cured?
It was unbelievable.
So, the organization still valued him.
After all, he was the only successful subject to survive the experiment. He was still worth something even though his body was ravaged by radiation.
“Hahaha… Luck is on my side!” Zeke roared.
“Don’t celebrate too soon. The new genetic serum may cure your condition, but it carries risks. The side effects could be severe and unpredictable.”
The voice cut in again, dousing his excitement like a bucket of cold water.
“The only certainty is that after recovery, you’ll retain all the abilities gained from the experimental modifications.”
