Chapter 302 No Way Back

From that day on, the way Zeke treated the three of them changed completely. It was as if he had become a different person.

He lashed out at them with insults at the slightest inconvenience. Sometimes, he even raised his fists at them.

Hazel and the others were stunned.

They couldn’t reconcile the shouting and saliva-spitting man with a twisted scowl to the gentle, attentive Zeke who used to care for them so tenderly. They couldn’t believe that the man who had once filled their entire hearts was the same one screaming at them.

Anya was the first to snap. She shouted back at him.

A smack rang sharp and sudden.

Zeke struck her across the face, knocking her straight to the floor.

A thin line of blood seeped from her lips. She lay there, completely dazed.

Zeke didn’t say another word. He just gave them a cold glance and walked back into his room before locking the door behind him.

“What was that?”

The three of them looked at each other.

Shock filled their eyes, but there was something deeper roiling within. They were confused.

None of them understood how things had come to this.

“It’s because we haven’t found a way to cure him,” Hazel said quietly. “Zeke’s dying. Of course, he’s losing control. In the end… this is on us.”

The answer settled over all three of them, unspoken but accepted.

That had to be it.

Why else would Zeke change so drastically?

Why would he even hit Anya?

Anya’s eyes were still swollen, her voice trembling with tears. “Even if that’s true, he can’t treat us like this! Do you think we don’t want him to get better? No one wants that more than we do!”

Her voice broke.

“Look at everything we’ve done for him. We’ve done everything we possibly could… and it still wasn’t enough. We tried our best! We even found a substitute for his sake… We even did something as awful as taking blood…”

Her words choked off as tears spilled down again.

They had always known that what they did to Evan, forcing him to give blood to Zeke, was cruel.

But they did it anyway.

There was no right or wrong.

Only whether they loved him enough.

Hazel took a deep breath. “At this point… normal methods won’t work anymore.”

Roxanne and Anya fell silent.

They had tried everything. They had even knelt and begged-humiliating themselves without hesitation. And still, nothing worked.

They didn’t know what else they could do.

“There is one more way…” Hazel’s voice dropped, heavy and low. “It’s extreme and dangerous. I wouldn’t use it unless there was absolutely no other choice.”

Her words hit like a hammer.

Roxanne and Anya stiffened, their expressions changing instantly. “Hazel… you’re thinking of that?”

Hazel didn’t answer.

She only nodded.

Then, she turned and went upstairs. When she returned, she was holding a thick file.

It had always been sealed-locked away with a password even Zeke didn’t know.

Now, she opened it.

Documents spilled out across the floor. Among them, one sheet stood out starkly.

Two bold words were printed across the top: Death Certificate.

And beneath it was Evan’s ID photo.
