Chapter 57 None of Your Business

“You don’t know her, and it’s none of your business.” Evan dismissed Hazel’s advice without hesitation.

Hazel’s eyes flared with fury. “This is for your own good! Those women aren’t as nice as you think! She’s lying to you!”

He continued eating, utterly unfazed by her words. “Still none of your business, Ms. Solberg. We’re getting divorced, and your family’s already-”

A panicked Cynthia cut in at once. “Here, Evan, have some more!” She filled up Evan’s plate with more food. Stefan was coughing violently. No one here could be allowed to know that Evan was already estranged from them.

Everyone looked at the couple, confused.

“What’s wrong?” Hazel frowned. She had a feeling her parents were hiding something.

Stefan glared at her. “Shut up and finish your food!”

Hazel said nothing. The air grew heavy and awkward.

The story about Evan and the heiresses was no secret to the Silverton elites. Even the Solbergs’ relatives had heard of it.

Divorce, however, was not something they expected. They thought it was just a regular fight, but now they saw an invisible wall between the couple.

Evan chatted happily with the Solberg couple, but he barely talked to Hazel despite being in the same room. She tried to talk to him multiple times, but he somehow dodged her.

The dinner came to an unceremonious end. Cynthia then quietly asked Evan to follow her. “Come with me, Evan.”

“What is it, Mrs. Solberg?”

Cynthia chewed her lower lip. “I have a favor to ask. Don’t tell anyone we’re estranged. The fewer who know, the better.”

Evan nodded. “Of course.”

Surprised, she asked, “You’re not curious why?”

A smile curled his lips. “I know what you and Mr. Solberg are doing. The estrangement isn’t your fault. You still have my respect.”

Cynthia sniffled, the corners of her eyes reddening visibly. She shook her head. “That’s not the problem. The Overlord of Silverton has his eyes on you all the time. If he knows you’re estranged, he’ll come after you.

Warmth spread through Evan’s chest. Cynthia and Stefan genuinely cared about him.

Cynthia added solemnly, “And some people suspect that the drakeblood gemstone you stole from him is a fake.” Evan’s expression darkened considerably. The Overlord tried to kill him because Evan’s family framed him as the thief who stole the precious gemstone. The real thief was Darius Norwood, the real heir to the Norwoods.

The Norwoods knew that, yet they still set Evan up just to protect Darius. To them, bloodline outweighed family. Evan replied, “I’ve told you, I didn’t steal that gemstone, Mrs. Solberg.”

Cynthia was stunned. She thought, ‘It’s been three years, and he’s still not confessing?”
