Chapter 65 Suspicion

That had been their last sliver of hope. She thought Ivana could help them out, especially when she told Hazel she’d heard of her.

In the end, it was nothing more than a pipedream.

That doctor vented his anger on the patient just because they displeased him, yet they didn’t even know who he was. This refusal came out of nowhere.

Anya had a grim look on her face. “I have a feeling someone’s out for us.”

Roxanne looked surprised. “You feel it too?”

Even Roxanne had the same feeling. Hazel could practically smell it. A big, invisible hand was pushing the whole thing around. They never crossed anyone, yet someone was after them.

Try as they might, they couldn’t figure out what went wrong.

Worried, Roxanne proposed, “Do you think Evan’s behind all of this?”

She was always the gentlest toward Evan among the trio. She was also the first to realize something was wrong with him at the hospital that day. Since then, their lives had taken a bumpy turn.

First, they couldn’t find out who the mysterious donor was, and then they slowly lost control of Evan. Now, the doctor who revived the Iron Dragon despised them.

The idea was rejected immediately.

“As if,” Hazel said coldly. “He’s not that powerful. If he were, he’d never have come to us three years ago. The Overlord wouldn’t have dared to kill him, and the Norwoods wouldn’t have taken Darius’ side!”

Some people’s fates were easy to read.

The fact that Evan was easily swayed by the emotions of a group of women meant he’d never make it big in life. Bloodline meant nothing. The Norwoods only picked Darius because he had a brighter future.

If Evan showed more potential than Darius, the Norwoods never would have left him for dead. The fact that they went with Darius even though they knew the truth meant they’d made their choice.

“We’ll figure out how to save Zeke. First, we need to go home.”

They left the place with their tails between their legs.

Unbeknownst to them, a tall, unmoving figure stood on the second-floor balcony, watching them in silence.

Evan said quietly, “This is what you get for forcing the blood transfusion.”

All animals were equals, but some animals were more equal than others. This was probably one of those

instances.

After that little episode, Ivana knew she shouldn’t tease Evan anymore.

Evan told her to keep looking for heavyweight herbs like drakeblood root, then he was about to take his leave.

“Wait,” Ivana said. With a smile, she fished out two invitations.
