Chapter 66 The Gilded Invitation
Ivana waved the two golden invitations in her hand, the metallic sheen gleaming under the light.
Every other invitation was plain white. Only hers were edged in gold.
“Do I really have to go?” Evan frowned.
“Why won’t you go?” Ivana shot back. “He specifically asked to see you. Sylvie told me everything-he failed to get you hitched with his daughter, Artemisia, so he’s changing his tactics. Now, he’s hoping you’ll mentor her in medicine.”
Evan fell silent.
He had more than one reason for not wanting to go. First, he was terrible at dealing with that kind of social scene. Second-and more importantly-he was afraid he might run into Hazel and the others.
He had already cut things off cleanly with Hazel. He didn’t want to see her again.
Ivana was far too sharp to miss what he was thinking. So, she nipped the problem in the bud, saying, ” Don’t worry. I’ll just give Caleb a call and have him limit the guest list.”
She placed the call immediately.
Caleb was startled out of his wits.
After she explained her request, he froze for a moment before falling over himself and blurted, “Of course!” Then, he added, “Honestly, people like them weren’t qualified to attend anyway…”
This banquet was very important to him. It was an essential event required to pave the way for Artemisia’s future.
Everyone invited was a bigshot in Silverton.
If things went well, Hugo would be there as well.
As for Hazel, Roxanne, Anya, and the rest of the younger generation? Well, they naturally didn’t qualify.
“Then… fine,” Evan finally agreed.
After all Ivana had done, refusing again would only make him look ungracious.
Her expression finally brightened as she handed him the invitation. “Enjoy your time with Sylvie. Things have changed now. When you walk into that room, you’ll see that those you once thought were untouchable will now be bowing at your feet.”
Her words stirred something deep in Evan’s chest. His grip on the invitations tightened. Then, he suddenly thought of something. “Aren’t you attending, Ivana?”
Ivana laughed it off. “Why would I? You two can make waves without me. I might scare the guests if I show up.”

She wasn’t kidding. After all, it was a fact that the scions and socialites within the city would be utterly eclipsed if she, the Queen of Finance, made an appearance at that banquet.
Meanwhile, Hazel and the others had already returned to the villa.
The entire place felt lifeless.
The three heiresses were in the worst mood imaginable as they laid their eyes on the frail Zeke.
Unfortunately, there was nothing they could do.
The mysterious blood donor was nowhere to be found. Evan refused to cooperate. Even worse, the miracle doctor who had cured Gaius had a terrible impression of them.
They truly couldn’t think of any other viable solution.
They were at a dead end.
“Hazel, maybe we should go and say a few kind words to Evan after all? We’ll go with you this time!” Roxanne suggested.
She was changing her tune.
For Zeke’s sake, there was no harm in her temporarily swallowing her pride.
“No!” Hazel immediately shot that idea down.
Her disgust toward Evan had reached impossible heights after what happened at the family dinner.
Besides, he now knew about Zeke’s blood shortage. So, she was confident he would definitely use it as leverage to force demands on them.
He was despicable.
“Trust me, he won’t lift a finger for Zeke even if we start pandering to him now. He’ll only push for even worse conditions-just like we used to do to him!”
