Caleb was overwhelmed with fear upon hearing Ivana’s words. His head spun as his world sites

axis.

He’d never felt this terrified, even when he was faced with a severe surgical error

Artemisia had ruined everything.

He was so panicked that he started bowing over and over again. He didn’t even care that Ivana able to see him. “Ms. Stanton, please calm down! I’ll find out exactly what happened right away. give Mr. Norwood a proper explanation…”

Everyone present was stunned into silence.

Artemisia, in particular, never imagined that simply failing to pick up one person could trigger such a devastating chain reaction.

The call ended. Soon, the hall became empty.

Caleb’s gloomy gaze finally landed on Artemisia,

Artemisia went rigid under Caleb’s glare, sucking in a sharp breath.

It was terrifying. She had never seen that expression on her father’s face.

She now realized that she was in serious trouble. Still, she looked at him fearfully and called out shakily,

D-Dad…”

Caleb charged at her like a furious beast.

A hard slap cracked across Artemisia’s face. The force was so brutal that her cheek instantly swelled, turning red before everyone’s eyes.

Artemisia was stunned into blankness, her eyes turning unfocused.

Hazel and the others, who had witnessed it firsthand, were too frightened to step forward in defense of

her

The atmosphere in the room felt suffocating.

Artemisia finally came back to herself after a good long while.

She clutched her swollen cheek as tears pooled in her eyes, crying out, “Dad, did you just hit me? Did you just hit your own daughter because of some nobody?”

“You had it coming!” Caleb roared, his voice raw with rage. “You should be grateful you’re my daughter. If you weren’t, I would’ve beaten you to death myself!”

Artemisia stared at him in disbelief. She clearly hadn’t expected such heartless words from her own father.

The grievance and fury she’d been holding back exploded all at once.

She shouted at him, “Isn’t this all because you were being unreasonable? You made a medical PhD holder like me become someone’s apprentice. What about my pride? My dignity? Besides, it’s not my fault! I went and picked him up just like you told me to! I did!

“He’s the one who didn’t show up! How is that my fault? If you don’t believe me, ask Roxanne and the others!”

She dragged Hazel, Roxanne, and Anya into their squabble.

The three of them had no choice but to step forward and reason with Caleb.

“Dr. Stone, Ms. Stone did go out of her way to pick him up. She just didn’t see anyone.”

“We even waited an extra 10 minutes, but no one showed up. That’s when we left. Please don’t blame

Artemisia.”

“You’re…” Caleb’s brows furrowed at the sight of them, growing even more furious when they appeared

before him. “Who let them in here?”

Ivana had called and personally listed Hazel, Roxanne, and Anya’s names, telling him to remove them from the guest list.

She might have made it sound as though she wanted to keep this banquet exclusive, but Caleb understood the real reason behind her actions.

Evan didn’t want to see these three women at all.

“Get them out of my sight!”

Security rushed in and promptly escorted the three socialites out of the doors.

“Wait, Dr. Stone-”

“Get out!”

Hazel tried to say something, but Caleb cut her off with a furious shout.

Artemisia protested when she saw Roxanne and the others being manhandled out of the doors, “Dad, what right do you have to kick my friends out like that?”

Caleb snorted coldly. “Friends? What a load of crap. Stay away from these trashy people from now on. In fact, I know for a fact that these three caused tonight’s disaster!”

“What?” Artemisia was utterly shocked by his words.

Caleb demanded, “Tell me. Did you really not see anyone when you went to pick him up? Answer me
