Chapter 75 A Shattered First Impression
What? Had Artemisia misheard him?
She couldn’t help but seriously wonder if something was wrong with her ears.
Evan was the important guest her father had sent her to pick up? That man was also the mentor she was supposed to apprentice under?
No way. Caleb had probably made a mistake. Yes, he definitely made a mistake.
Hazel and the others had been talking about how ungrateful Evan was before she’d gone to pick up her future” mentor.
So, Artemisia was completely firm on her beliefs regarding his character. To her, she was nothing but a shameless and ungrateful loser.
He was a leech who’d been clinging to the three heiresses and sucking them dry without a hint of shame.
And now, she was being told that this “loser” was the honored guest she was supposed to escort-the man her father had been willing to slap her over.
How was she supposed to accept that?
“Dad, are you sure you aren’t mistaken?” Artemisia blurted, her eyes as wide as saucers. “Evan is a terrible person! He’s ungrateful and petty. How could you treat him like an honored guest?”
The whiplash between Hazel’s version of Evan and Caleb’s version of him was something she simply
couldn’t process.
Caleb’s anger instantly flared up once more. “Who told you all that?”
“Roxanne and the others,” Artemisia replied without hesitation.
In her mind, they were the ones most qualified to judge Evan as they had interacted with him. Caleb looked like he was about to explode when he heard that the trio of idiots was involved. “They’re biased! Those women are so self-centered that they never once placed themselves in anyone else’s shoes. Everyone who’s anyone in Silverton is all well aware of their strenuous relationship with Mr. Norwood! How could you believe their slander so easily?”
He let out a heavy sigh.
The more he thought about it, the more his heart ached.
Artemisia had ruined his meticulously thought-out banquet. Even worse, she’d also offended Ivana and
the others with her actions.
Still, what really sucker punched him was the fact that Evan had been standing right in front of Artemisia the whole time.

He’d waited for her for a long time, which meant that she’d countless chances to fix things before things went to hell. Yet, Hazel and the others had successfully derailed every single one of them.
What a disaster!
Caleb hated those three to the bone. Their actions had just cost the Stone family to lose out on a chance to achieve greater heights.
“All right, Dad,” Artemisia said quickly when she saw his expression. “I’ll apologize to Evan and try to earn his forgiveness. Please calm down.”
Artemisia, who knew she was in the wrong, felt frustrated upon being on the receiving end of Caleb’s look of bitter disappointment. Still, it was obvious that she wasn’t giving this situation the solemnity it duly required.
“But I’m making this clear upfront,” she added. “I’ll apologize, but I’m never, ever becoming his apprentice.
Caleb had only just managed to calm down when her words sent his temper flaring all over again.
Alas, Artemisia wasn’t about to yield so easily. “This is a matter of principle. I have my pride as a genius, so I will never apprentice under someone whose skill is on par with mine-or worse, below me.”
She knew there was always someone better out there.
So, she wasn’t against being an apprentice. However, she was of the opinion that anyone qualified to take her on had to be at least a nationally renowned physician.
She laid out her standards clearly. Then, she even brought up Logan of the Imperia Golden Healing
Chamber.
“For example, I’d be more than willing to become Dr. Ryder’s apprentice,” she said, tilting her chin proudly.
Caleb almost laughed from sheer disbelief.
The person she looked up to, Logan Ryder, had been competing for a spot as Evan’s apprentice as well. Unfortunately, he’d been rejected.
Frankly, Caleb was still reeling from that memory.
The more he thought about it, the more certain he was that Artemisia truly could not afford to miss this opportunity. At this point, he didn’t even care that she’d already offended Evan.
“This is not up for
