Chapter 99 A Kill Order Too Late to Stop
‘What?! Synthetic blood? We got scammed?!’
A dull boom echoed in Zeke’s mind as he staggered backward and collapsed onto the hospital bed. His brain had gone completely blank. Soon, he felt a crushing weight pressed hard against his chest.
It felt so heavy that the sheer weight made it seem that it could stop his heart altogether. After all, his plans had just gone up in flames.
In fact, now he was terrified of one possibility-Evan dying. He would never have sent someone after Evan if he’d known the blood was fake.
When Hazel, Roxanne, and Anya rushed in after hearing the news, their faces had gone pale.
“Are you sure? You’d better not be messing around!” Hazel demanded urgently, glaring at the doctor.
“I am. We ran extraction tests over and over. This is synthetic blood.”
After multiple rounds of testing, they quickly discovered the truth-the blood was artificial, meant to mimic the real thing.
‘Boom!’
The women started to tremble when they laid their eyes on the real test results. Their backs were drenched with cold sweat as they turned ghostly pale.
“This is bad, this is really bad! The blood bags were fake! What are we supposed to do now?”
All three looked utterly terrified. Zeke couldn’t afford the wait. They had assumed that everything was finally going smoothly, only for the worst possible situation to strike.
“I knew that guy seemed sketchy! But you all insisted on trusting him…” Anya complained.
Roxanne and Hazel’s expressions turned grim. “The hospital told us that everything was fine. How were we supposed to know that it was a fake?”
Meanwhile, Zeke couldn’t even hear them squabbling. The side effects of the wrong transfusion had crashed down on him. Now, his fear was shredding whatever was left of his composure. He toppled off the bed with a heavy crash, collapsing onto the floor and trembling uncontrollably.
“Enough!” Hazel was the first to notice Zeke’s condition. “We have to figure out how to fix this! We need to hunt that donor down and confront him in person!”
Before the trio left, they tried to reassure him. “Don’t worry, Zeke. He mustn’t have gone far. We’ll definitely find him.”
Unfortunately, Hazel came back almost immediately.
Zeke had pinned all his hopes on her. Nevertheless, his heart sank when he saw her ashen complexion.
“He’s gone. He’s blocked all our numbers, and the account we wired the money to is an overseas account. It’ll self-destruct before long.”
‘Boom.’
The news hit Zeke like a thunderclap as his eyes widened in terror.
Before he could speak, Roxanne hurried in, her expression just as pale. “I found out who they are. They’re professional scammers. Forget the blood test, the identity they used to contact us was also fake. Everything about them was fake!
“We had been played from the very start. All they wanted was the money.”
The lemons just kept coming. Zeke couldn’t make a single sound at this point. He closed his eyes in despair, his expression

hollow. His breathing turned ragged as his failing lungs tried to drag in the oxygen he needed. For a moment, he looked like a man already mourning his own death.
