Damon’s eyes lit up as the green dot appeared next to Kate’s name. "She’s in," he muttered, a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
Without hesitation, he tapped the party invite and sent it across. Almost instantly, a system notification pinged back.
[K8 has joined your party.]
"Kate, which newbie town are you in?"
"Ronark." She replied.
The next second, Mark’s name popped up online too. Damon sent the invite to Mark as well, and surprisingly, the bro sister duo had spawned in the same newbie town.
Usually, the players were distributed, but sometimes friends did start together, so it was not very uncommon. It didn’t matter. They were here and he needed to get there asap.
Damon was quite confident about Kate’s condition, but despite that, he was very anxious and nervous. If anything wrong happened to her, he would be responsible for it. He needed to go and see her right this second.
"Ronark. Ronark. Ronark. That’s near Holem city." The city was in the neighbouring Kingdom, but it was a friendly kingdom, so there was a teleportation portal for the city. It cost double the amount of gold coins, which Damon did not hesitate to pay up.
The next second, he was standing in Holem City.
The teleportation circle flashed beneath his feet, and Damon emerged in the heart of Holem City. Unlike Garth, this place was quieter, more serene, its cobbled streets lined with flowering trees and gentle streams that ran through the open squares.
But Damon wasn’t here for the scenery.
He quickly opened the party interface, tracking Kate and Mark’s locations. The marker pulsed on the edge of Ronark village, just outside the western training field.
His footsteps quickened. He left the city and activated Stealth, Stalk, and Shadow Step to maximize his speed. He reached the small newbie town in no time.
The outskirts of Ronark were just as he remembered, a quiet village with straw roofs, wooden palisades, and NPC farmers endlessly hoeing their fields like enchanted clockwork. A few level 1 players were swatting at tutorial slimes, yelling in panic when the creatures bounced too close.
Damon’s eyes locked on the two markers just ahead, near the sparring dummies by the training field. There they were.
He arrived at the training field, and the first thing he noticed was a pale face, completely and utterly lacking any and all emotions.
Damon’s heart dropped.
As soon as Kate saw him, without a word, she quietly bowed. "I am here to serve my Lord master. Please give me your orders."
"Fuck. I screwed up."
"What did you say, Master? You want me to screw you?"
Kate’s laughter softened as she turned to face her brother. Her smile dimmed into something gentler, warmer, and for a moment, she just looked at him, as if seeing Mark for the first time all over again.
"I’m... good," she said finally, with surprising calm. "Really good, actually. Better than I’ve felt in a long time."
Mark looked completely unconvinced. "You died, Kate. I was there. I saw you flatline! And now you’re... you’re joking around like this is normal?" His voice cracked with emotion. "What even is this game? Damon said he saved you, but how is that possible?" He then turned to Damon. "How can you be a vampire in real life? Are you both vampires now? Do you drink blood now?"
Kate stepped closer and placed a hand on her brother’s arm. "I don’t know all the answers. Not yet. But I believe him." She glanced at Damon, and her voice dropped. "I remember some things... It was like I was falling into a void. Cold, dark, and endless. But then, something pulled me back. It wasn’t gentle. It burned. But it worked."
Mark’s eyes flicked between her and Damon, struggling to process. Damon cleared his throat and stepped in. "Just wait a second. Let me start from the beginning. I have a lot to explain to the two of you."
Damon stopped for a moment and then decided to skip the part about him travelling back in time. It was not that he did not trust Mark, but it just seemed as if it was unnecessary to toss that one as well into the mix.
He told them about Bloodreign’s soul and explained that he had stumbled onto it in his newbie village. That, combined with his fragmented primordial bloodline, slowly made everything clear to both Kate and Mark.
