That made him happy and he grinned at me, now on board. “If he plays with and still doesn’t think I’m a freak, I’ Il like him more.” He gushed and as I watched him resume eating his food, a fond smile tug at my lips. I could feel his excitement right now which is certainly because of how much he havent played in ages, thanks to kids avoiding him for the past month before we finally came on this trip.
As I resumed my own food, my hand moved up to massage my chest which was back to hurting as soon as Zoren left. I couldn’t wait for what he said the doctor was preparing to be ready, because this weird pain that only lessens whenever he’s close to me or touching me, was weird as hell.
My phone rang at that moment and I smiled on glancing at the screen. It was my sisters.
“Your aunts are calling, Kai.” I called out and he grinned happily, hurrying to my side at once. He loved his aunts as much as he loved me, having been raised by us three. My two siblings knew who his father was after a single glance at him after he was born, so I was forced to tell them the truth. And right now, they were aware we were in Zoren’s house right now.
“How are you and how is Kai ?” Gina asked and I launched into a brief explanation of how we were being treated better than I could have expected, not wanting to worry them with what was actually happening. They were pleased to hear that and they took time speaking to Kai and telling him they miss him and can’t wait to have him back. By the time the call ended, as expected, Kai was a little sad.
“Can’t they come over as well? They’ll get to meet Zoren too.” He mumbled as he leaned into my side, pouting cutely. If only he knew that his two aunts have once met Zoren and back then, he barely exchanged a word
with them.
“We’ll see, baby. Now, eat up so you can shower. Remember that you’ll be meeting up with your new friend soon.” I informed him and that did the trick. It had him excited again, and he did as asked.
In no time, he was dressed after a shower, ready to meet Zoren. I was dressed as well, cause I’ll be staying with them, not sure I’m comfortable with them out of my sight just yet even though I’m sure Zoren wouldn’t hurt him. I was dressed in a pair of pants that hugged my hips and ass, along with a comfortably flowery top. When I regarded my reflection while doing up my hair, I realized that I was also excited and being intentional about my looks today. With a start, I wondered if I was being this way because of Zoren. That caught me off guard and after a few seconds of debating with myself, I ended up assuring myself I was doing this for myself and no one else. I applied very light makeup and was sure I looked good, then I and Kai exited the room.
Jet was already waiting by the end of the hall, revealing that he was here to lead us outside where Zoren was already waiting for us.
“You’re the man from yesterday!” Kai declared bluntly and I sighed while Jet grinned as he nodded.
“Yeah, man. I’m jet.”
Kai grinned, preening at being spoken to like a grown up. “Cool. I’m Kai.”
Jet offered him a handshake which he accepted quickly. “Nice to meet you.”
Kai echoed those words right after him then they separated. When I took his hand as we began to walk again, Kai protested. He clearly wanted me to let go of him, not liking when I held him too much because he believes he’s grown.
“Don’t run, okay? If you trip and fall, no more play day for you today.” I tell him sternly after dropping his hand.
He nodded firmly. “Of course, mommy. I know no running in the house.”
After that, he bounced in front of us, but clearly fighting against running.
I sighed as I looked over at Jet who was regarding Kai fondly. “He’s so cute.”
“But a handful.” I added as I smiled fondly.
We were led right through a door that revealed a very beautiful garden that made me gasp in my throat as I

looked around. It was like I walked right into a fairytale.
I caught sight of Zoren almost immediately by a bunch of lilies, and a smile was already stretching on my face but that was before I caught sight of Erica stand right beside him. As we approached them, Kai came to willingly take my hand and I held him firmly before we finally stopped in front of them.
“How are you feeling, Kai?” Zoren murmured as he crouched before him. Kai beamed at him. Erica was glaring at me, her expression deadly and her body right beside Zoren’s but I ignored her and focused on my child.
“I’m feeling very excited. We’re gonna play today, right?”
Zoren returned the smile as he nodded. “Yes, we are. What kind of games do you like to play?”
“I like to play catch,” Kai revealed, now bouncing on his feet. Zoren nodded without hesitation.
“Then we’ll play catch,”
As Zoren rose to his feet again, his eyes met mine and I swallowed emptily, aware that now, the pain in my chest has dulled drastically.
Again, I can’t wait for what the doctor will cook up this evening. This weird pain that only disappears once I’m beside him needs to stop, cause it was messing with my head.
“It’s high time you two are introduced.” Zoren was now looking between Erica and myself.
“Erica, Ciara. Ciara, Erica.”
Erica took Zoren’s hand, holding it to her chest as she spoke. “I hope you won’t hurt me again just for being nice to you.”
I scoffed in irritation. “You were the one who hurt me. You injured my wrist.” I snapped at her fast, holding the bandaged wrist up. Zoren’s eyes settled on the wrist even after I dropped it and I squirmed.
“Lying again? Can you hear this, baby?” Erica said to Zoren who shot her a disapproving look.
“Enough. No fighting. Today is all about Kai.” As Zoren bit those words out, Erica faced Kai, a faux smile on as she stepped forward.
“Aren’t you gonna greet me, kid?”
Kai frowned at her. “Sorry, I don’t know you,”
Erica looked confused then she attempted to hug Kai, but he quickly stepped backward before I could even intervene. “I don’t hug strangers, sorry.” He breathed out in a polite tone
I pulled Kai into my side, irritated as hell that Erica was attempting to hug him without even introducing herself first, while Erica looked furious as she faced Zoren.
“He’s so rude! I bet his mom told him to act this way!”
I let out a sigh, pulling Kai even closer.
Soren looked unimpressed as he spoke to her. “That’s because you didn’t introduce yourself or ask for permission before attempting to hug him. His mom didn’t ask him to do that.”
Erica still looked angry. “But he’s just a kid, why should I have to take permission from him?” She asked and I rolled my eyes.
“Unbelievable.” I stated and she glared at me for a moment.
“When are we gonna start playing?” Kai said to Zoren.
“In a bit.” Zoren responded.
“When is she leaving?” I asked, pointing at Erica who blanched.
“Leaving? I’m gonna stay here and watch.” Erica declared and I felt Kai stiffen against me.
“I’m sorry but Kai wouldn’t be comfortable with your watching.” I told her and she appeared shocked again.
“What? He’s just a kid, what does it matter?.”
I shot her a scowl. “He’s a kid but his feelings are valid!

She attempted to argue when Zoren asked her to leave. She blanched while I stifled a pleased snicker.
“But… I’d like to watch too… I’d like to get to know him too…” Erica began but Zoren shook his head. “Maybe when he’s more comfortable around you. For now, you’ll have to excuse us.”
Erica didn’t argue, after she kissed Zoren’s cheek, she turned and left, but not before giving me a death glare. After she left, I let out a long sigh. Kai tugged on my sleeves like he does whenever he wants to speak to me in public. I crouched in front of me and he cupped my ears as he spoke.
“I don’t like how she smelt. She smelt weird.”
My eyes widened in surprise, and those words continued to echo within me even after Zoren asked us to move off to the field, then he went off to fetch the objects they’d be throwing around. As Kai got distracted by some butterflies, Zoren came to stand before me, his eyes raking over me in a way that made my face flush.
“Cute shirt.” He stated and I swallowed emptily while awkwardly nodding at him.
“Thanks.”
“Are you jealous of Erica?” The question took me off guard and I shook my head fast as my heart pounded hard in my chest.
“What? Of course not. Why would I be?” I breathed out, my heart still racing.
“Good, because my wedding with her will be in plans soon.” He revealed and even as my heart felt like it shattered within me, I still nodded at him. After he turned away from me, I wondered why my heart reacted that way especially seeing as I don’t care about him. So, why did my heart shatter?
When he began to move away, I fell into step behind him before it even registered within me, abruptly stopping when he stopped suddenly and I made contact with his back.
“I’m sorry.” I breathed out, my face flushed as I breathed fast when he faced me again. “I just don’t know why this pain in my chest only stops when I’m close to you. It’s stupid and confusing.”
He kept wordlessly staring at me before nodding. “it’s certainly onfusing. It’s because of the severed bite.”
At the mention of the bite, my hand went up to the side of my neck and my face flashed on remembering how it felt when he rubbed it this morning.
“You can stand close to me throughout the rest of today until the doctor comes up with something to fix this confusing pain.” He revealed and I was taken aback. It was unusual for him to be this nice and would take some getting used to.
“Oh, it’s fine.” I breathed out even though it wasn’t because I do want to be close to him, this urge in me was craving that so much.
“It’s for my own good too, after all you’re not the only one feeling the pain.” He revealed and I slowly nodded while exhaling. There was only a few inches between us and my breathing slowly grew labored when he kept staring at me.
“Zoren! Let’s start the game already!” Kai’s voice made us pull apart at once.
