Substitute Wife, Genius CEO novel Chapter 562

Seeing how desperate and high-strung he was acting now, Summer found it almost laughable.

If only he had cared this much before he ruined everything.

She let out a soft scoff. "Well, it doesn't matter to me. We ended a long time ago. Pulling these stunts just makes me despise you even more."

Xavier panicked, his eyes brimming with desperate tears. He looked at her with such raw, feverish intensity, it was as if he wanted to rip his own heart out of his chest to prove his devotion.

"Summer, I know I was an absolute bastard. I was wrong. It was all my fault. But I never meant for things to end up like this. I never forgot you. You're the only woman I've ever loved."

Summer was so thoroughly disgusted she couldn't listen to another word. "Xavier, have some goddamn self-respect."

She signaled her aide to push her wheelchair back to the room, but Xavier lunged forward, blocking her path. "Summer, what do I have to do to make you forgive me? Just tell me, and I'll do it. I swear."

"Get out of my sight. Never show your face in front of me again, and maybe then I'll forgive you."

"Summer, you know I can't do that. I can't stay away from you," Xavier choked out, his voice trembling on the verge of a sob.

"Then go die!" Summer spat viciously. "Just disappear from my life forever!"

The words struck him like a physical blow, making him stagger backward. Tears slipped down his cheeks as he stared at her. "Do you... really hate me that much?"

"What did you expect?" Summer replied with terrifying coldness. "I regret the day I ever saved your life."

That final sentence suffocated him. He stared at her, his eyes bloodshot and wide with agony.

Her bodyguards shoved Xavier aside, clearing the way for the aide to wheel her back into the suite.

Xavier stood frozen in the hallway, looking as if the weight of the world had just crushed his spine. His shoulders slumped, radiating a thick, palpable aura of absolute despair.

Having thoroughly enjoyed the show, Natalia looped her arm through Preston's and strutted past the shattered man.

As she brushed by, she feigned a trip, letting out a soft gasp as she intentionally rammed her shoulder into Xavier.

The impact knocked Xavier off balance. His bandaged hand slammed against the hospital wall, instantly reopening the gash and sending fresh blood seeping through the gauze.
