Chapter 355
Reginald’s POV
“It’s so good to see you again, Reggie,” Odette said, smiling friendly like we were old friends.
We weren’t.
My family had taken her in, treated her like one of us, and then restored her to we thought was her beloved Grayson, only to learn that she had treated us all like fools. I doubted now if she had ever really had amnesia to start with, or if she had just been using us to increase her own position, to hopefully convince Grayson to marry her.
She sided with the Queen in the last conflicts, escaping before justice could be wrought. Now, she was here.
And the Council wanted me to, what? Embrace her with open arms?
Make her my wife?
I turned to my Beta. “Where is the Council right now? I will speak with them.”
“They are still in session, Alpha.”
“This isn’t necessary, Reggie,” Odette said. “You don’t need to be so difficult about this.”
I didn’t even acknowledge her. Knowing the depths of her lies now, I could reflect and see how I had been personally manipulated in the past. She was very good at making people believe what she wanted. I was sure that was what she had done now, with the Council.
Turning, I walked away from her, heading toward the Council chambers. Odette stayed beside me.
“You are being silly, Reggie,” she said as we walked. “Can’t you see this is the best path forward for us? I’d make you a good wife, I promise. I’d be so much better for you than anyone you could pick on your own. Grayson made a mistake passing me by, but that’s only a boon for you. Can’t you see how I would make everything so much better once I’m your wife?”
“You do not belong at my side,” I said. “You belong in a jail cell.” As soon as the words left my mouth, I regretted them. Not because they were untrue, but because she did not deserve to have any reaction from me. I needed to be more stoic. More refined.
Colder.
“You listen too much to Grayson’s lies. I didn’t have anything to do with what happened with the Queen. Or, I guess she’s not the Queen now, is she, thank the Goddess. Is it too difficult to see how I might have also been deceived? She pulled the wool over my eyes, as well. Everyone did! I’m a victim in this, just as much as Lillian. As anyone!”
I ignored her. Finally reaching the Council’s chambers, I burst through the double door and approached the round table where they all sat.
They had the audacity to look surprised – even offended – by my entrance. I slammed my hands down on the table, and they gasped, several pushing back in their chairs.

“What is the meaning of this, Reginald?” one asked.
“I am not marrying this woman!” I shouted, at my limit.
Their brows raised.
“Why ever not?” one asked.
“Odette was adored by your parents. She’s always been welcome here.”
“Have you not received my letters? Or read my reports? Do you not understand all the harm that this woman has done?”
