Riley watched the natives blend in seamlessly with the guild members without any awkward tension. She held her wine cup, leaned back in her chair, and wore a soft smile on her face.
The warm, lively party lasted until nearly eleven o’clock at night.
Everyone’s faces were flushed from drinking. They burped loudly, completely satisfied, and prepared to end the unforgettable in-person gathering.
“I can’t eat another bite. I’m stuffed.” LoneWolf stood up and rubbed his full stomach. He glanced out at the howling snowstorm outside. “Hey guys, anyone wanna check out our guild inn? I took a look around earlier. They’ve got real goose-feather beds and personal fireplaces in every room!”
“You never pass up a good deal, Wolf. I don’t believe you’re actually full,” OrderBoard teased him.
“I’m gonna prove I’m not cheap today!” LoneWolf’s face was bright red. He waved his hand boldly. “Fifty blue-tier crafting materials, dropping in the guild chat right now!”
“No way? You’re feeling generous today?”
Everyone was shocked. LoneWolf was famously stingy. Fifty blue crafting materials were enough to make two or three pieces of blue gear.
Roughly half of the thirty-plus members walked toward the inn together, excited to try out the fancy new lodging. The other half either wanted to get back to their personal camps or sort through the day’s loot. They said their goodbyes, stepped onto the teleport anchors, and vanished in flashes of white light to return to their own territories.
Riley, PineappleBeer, and TartKing stretched their bodies and headed back to their private camps. They took warm showers and went straight to sleep.
The next morning…
Riley was watering plants inside her subspace when system notifications kept popping up nonstop.
She set down her small watering bucket and opened the glowing private group chat-the trio’s money-making crew.

TartKing had sent several messages.

[TartKing: Burger, Pine! Jack and Tom ran into trouble out in the wild. Don’t worry though. we’re almost back at my camp.]
Riley had expected them to return eventually. The snowland seemed to loosely connect to their original world, almost like a parallel dimension. It was normal for them to struggle finding Winterhold City.
[SpicyBurger: How bad is it? I’m coming over right away.]
[TartKing: Nothing too serious. A few monsters were chasing them, but I took care of it.]
[PineappleBeer: Glad they’re safe. I’m too far from my camp to move right now.]
[TartKing: No worries, Pine. Take your time.]
Riley wasted no time. She left Neeko to tend the plants in her subspace and hurried to the intermediate teleportation array in her yard.
The array lit up, and the world around her shifted in an instant.
Inside TartKing’s yard, Jack and Tom were slumped messily on the ground. They looked absolutely terrible.
Jack’s guard leather armor was torn to shreds. His body was covered in bloody gashes, caked with dark dirt and dried maroon blood.
Tom trembled violently from the bitter cold. His thick cotton coat had a huge jagged tear, and fluffy insulation spilled out in the freezing wind.
Beside them, their two sturdy pack horses were also badly injured. Their heads hung weakly, and clear slash wounds ran down their legs.
It was a pure miracle that both men and horses had made it back alive.
Tart King looked harmless as usual, but her blood-stained greatsword silently told the story of the brutal fight she’d just finished.
“Burger! You’re here!”
TartKing’s eyes lit up the second she saw Riley. She casually stored her heavy sword away.
“What happened?” Riley walked over, frowned at the two bloodied men, and asked, “How’d they get hurt this badly?”
