Jack stared down at his bandaged hands and let out a quiet sigh. His lips twitched, like he wanted to say something, but his stubborn pride held him back.

He was the one who insisted on leaving the camp. It felt embarrassing to beg for shelter now that he had nothing left.

Noticing his hesitation, Riley smiled softly. She could easily tell what was on his mind.

“It’s fine that you couldn’t find your way back.” Riley spoke in a calm, steady tone. “Fate brought you here again, so stay for now. You can live here just like Joseph and the others.”

Jack’s head shot up. His eyes were filled with raw gratitude.

Riley held his gaze and continued in a serious voice, “I’ll give you a roof over your heads and a chance to earn your own keep. But I’ll be honest with you. I don’t keep useless hands around here. Every bit of food, shelter, and protection must be earned through hard work.”

Those plain, straightforward words sounded like pure music to Jack and Tom.

When a person had absolutely nothing, they feared being useless more than being used. The chance to work for their survival and dignity meant far more than free handouts or pity.

“Thank you for your kindness, My Lord!” Jack and Tom nodded frantically. The movement pulled their wounds, yet they still bowed in a solemn oath of allegiance. “We swear to serve you until our last breath!”

Riley chuckled at their dramatic, determined expressions and waved them off. “Don’t be so serious. You might still find a way home someday. Take these next few days to rest and fully heal.

“Once you’ve recovered, Joseph will assign your jobs. The open coal mine is short on workers right now. You’ll either do simple physical labor or patrol the stronghold’s perimeter. For an experienced captain like you, the work won’t be too tough.”

Riley paused and turned toward Tom, who still looked nervous and awkward.

“As for you, you and Lily are both excellent winemakers from the High Court Winery. Everyone loved your wine.”

Riley kept talking. “Unfortunately, my camp does stay warm, but we don’t have the means to set up large-scale grape planting yet. Until then, you’ll have to help out with odd jobs around the camp.”

“Okay! I can do it!” Tom nodded, his face bright with gratitude.

“Don’t worry.” Riley reassured them. “Once we get grape seeds and build proper farmland, you two can fully show off your skills.”

Looking at the calm and composed Riley, all the unease in Jack and Tom’s hearts faded away completely.

Riley handed the two men over to Joseph. He already knew the camp’s system perfectly and could arrange their work properly.

Meanwhile, Neeko happily led her two newly healed horses into the subspace woodland. With the help of the treant, she built a simple stable out of wood and hay beside the small cabin.

The camp kept developing steadily, but the conflict between survivors never stopped.

Riley sat on the living room sofa with PineappleBeer and TartKing, staring at the floating data panel.

Riley glanced at the list and let out a faint, mocking huff.

They had dropped straight to the bottom of the rankings in just a few days. Even the Brotherhood, which used to rank last, had climbed above them.

The Golden Rose Chamber of Commerce had clearly bribed and recruited a large number of
