Riley and PineappleBeer exchanged a glance, rose to their feet in perfect sync, and followed NorthWind and SouthWind toward the rear of the Bonfire Altar.
What had once been an unassuming small storage shed stood there. Half wrecked from the day’s battles, its foundation still remained intact.
NorthWind deftly moved aside a pile of clutter in the shed’s corner, revealing a heavy iron door hidden beneath layers of snow.
Click.
After activating camp owner privileges, the iron door rumbled open slowly, exposing a flight of stone steps leading down to the
basement.
The four of them descended the stairs. The passage was short, and inside the cramped basement stood a towering cylindrical machine humming steadily, built in a sleek modern industrial style.
No bigger than two side-by-side refrigerators, its intricate network of piping, pressure gauges, and the softly glowing control panel at its core all spoke volumes of its immense value.
Two massive storage barrels sat beneath the machine’s output spout, and the sharp, pungent scent of crude oil hung thick in the
air.
Riley and PineappleBeer’s eyes lit up almost at the exact same moment.
“This is the Small Oil Refinery & Production Unit?” Riley stepped forward curiously, studying the control panel closely.
“It is,” NorthWind replied. He tapped a few commands in
the console, pulling up a floating holographic interface. “This machine’s fully automated. It pumps out steady crude oil nonstop, and you can refine it right here into gasoline, diesel, and even lubricant byproducts. The refining process just burns extra power and takes a little time.”
With that, NorthWind turned to face Riley and PineappleBeer, his tone earnest, edged with quiet unease.
“If Hope Guild hadn’t stepped in to save us today, this facility would’ve fallen straight into WarWolf Guild’s hands. None of any crew would’ve made it out alive either.”
He swallowed hard, steeling his resolve.
“We know Icefield Drifters Alliance doesn’t have the strength to hold onto this goldmine on our own.
ľ
“I’ve talked it over with our guild leader. If-and I mean if-Hope Guild can shield us from WarWolf Guild’s next wave of attacks… we’re willing to hand over all output from this facility to your guild, no strings attached.”
Silence hung thick in the basement for several seconds.
Both NorthWind and SouthWind wore obvious looks of reluctance. This facility was icefield Drifters Alliance’s only economic lifeline, their greatest hope for rebuilding their guild in the days ahead. Giving it away felt like cutting off a piece of themselves. Yet they dared not haggle, not when they owed their lives to such a powerful ally.
Especially NorthWind. Other people could teleport away. He couldn’t. His life had been saved by them in the first place.
Watching their awkward, anxious expressions, Riley and PineappleBeer smiled calmly

Riley teaned casually against the control panel, arms folded across her chest, and shook her head gently.

“I get what you’re saying. But NorthWind, SouthWind, there’s no need to act like you’re handing over everything as a last resort.”
She met their gazes steadily.
“Hope Guild lives up to its name-we exist to give every worthy survivor a fighting chance. We’d never take advantage of someone in a tight spot. We’re not ruthless looters like WarWolf Guild.”
NorthWind and SouthWind stared at her in stunned disbelief.
Riley held out a hand in easy agreement.
“This facility spawned on your camp land; it’s rightfully Icefield Drifters Alliance’s private property. That said, PineappleBeer and I do need a steady supply of high-grade fuel right now.”
She smiled generously.
“Here’s the deal. As long as production stays consistent, we split all resources fifty-fifty. Consider it fair payment for Hope Guild’s protection and our partnership. And that share of yours will give your guild exactly what you need to rebuild after the fight. Sound good?”
