“Now that all materials are ready, my semi-automatic assembly line can run at full output. Only I can connect to the control console personally to max out crafting efficiency.”

She turned to give PineappleBeer strict instructions.

“Keep this place locked down with SouthWind. Have the treant lay camouflage vines around the camp perimeter. The blizzard is raging hard tonight and visibility is terrible. Post more hidden sentries along the rift bridge-don’t let any WarWolf assassins sneak across. Make sure everyone rotates shifts to stay sharp and rested.”

“I’ve got this covered.” PineappleBeer nodded.

Riley wasted no time. She walked toward the wooden bridge spanning the rift, exchanged a few casual greetings with the bridge guards, then pulled a snowmobile straight out of her Inventory.

Once she reached the far side of the rift, she poured the barrel of gasoline she’d retrieved from the basement into the fuel tank.

The gauge shot straight to full, breathing new life into the rugged machine.

Riley straddled the snowmobile and twisted the ignition key.

Vroom-

The engine’s rumble faded into the howling blizzard, yet scorching exhaust carved a deep trail across the snow.

Two hundred fifty yards from NorthWind’s camp, at WarWolf Guild’s forward outpost, several sentries huddled around a heating firepit snapped alert the second they spotted a lone moving light on the snowy plains. They raised binoculars, locking onto the glow.

“Captain! Something’s up!”

One guard hurried to the main command tent and reported, “There’s a light on the opposite side of the rift, moving fast.”

The tent flap swung open. WarWolf’s frontline commander stepped out, wrapped in a thick Frost Bear fur coat. He frowned into the dark night and let out a cold snort.

“How many hostiles?”

“Just one,” the sentry replied honestly.

The commander’s tense posture relaxed at once, a mocking smirk tugging at his lips.

“What trouble can a single person stir up? Probably heading back to their ramshackle camp to restock supplies.” He waved dismissively and turned back into the tent. “Pay her no mind. Dark, icy trails out there-let the wild beasts tear her apart if she’s careless. Let the men get some rest. The guild leader mobilized two full regiments. Come dawn tomorrow. I’ll make those two guilds beg for mercy.”

To WarWolf’s leadership, victory in this war came down entirely to numbers. A guild of barely 30 members, no matter how strong its individual fighters, was nothing more than a slightly harder rock beneath the overwhelming crush of hundrech

Wind and snow howted in Riley’s ears as she steered the snowmobile, weaving swiftly over familiar terrain.

Minutes later, a cluster of camp buildings came into view.

She slowed down and headed for the main gate.

Before she could draw near, she froze in surprise–the residential compound built against the camp’s right outer wall was still lit

Riley had set this district aside specifically to shelter the native survivors she’d rescued out in the wilderness. Normally by this hour, the laborers who’d worked all day would have long turned in. To conserve fuel, they turned in early most nights with no pointless screen time to waste away their hours.

But tonight, the streetlamps stayed lit, and a bonfire blazed bright at the compound entrance.

The snowmobile’s engine caught the attention of those gathered by the fire.

Two figures cloaked in heavy beast-fur coats stood instantly, gripping shovels and light crossbows tightly.
