“Don’t worry, Boss!” Damian chugged the hot milk, exhaling a cloud of white breath, and patted the armor on his chest. “We expanded the patrol radius by 500 yards. Looks like this blizzard is about the same level as the last one. There are a lot more monsters spawning during the day, but they’re all Ghouls. So far, no signs of any large monsters approaching.
“We also set up a fast–travel lane between the guild base and your campfire radius. We left Explorer’s Torches in storage boxes on both sides, so crossing through the middle is totally safe. Plus, the next rotation squad is already out there!”
“Thanks for the hard work. Go warm up by the fire, we saved some hot food for you guys over there,” Riley patted both of their shoulders, her eyes full of approval.
Damian grinned, half–joking, “Holiday patrols pay five times the contribution points, and the work is easy. Honestly, everyone’s actually fighting over the shifts.”
Hearing that, even Riley paused in surprise for a second.
Time flew by amidst the bustle and laughter, and night slowly draped over the entire icefield.
In the plaza outside, a small mountain of wood had been piled up. As the massive bonfire was ignited, flames shot toward the sky, illuminating the entire plaza as bright as day and perfectly complimenting the swaying festive lanterns.
Inside the tavern, the place was packed to the brim.
The survivors from both merged guilds, the seven natives, plus Neeko, Ash, Twiggy, and C.P., all shared one massive table. Everyone else crowded around the long tables pushed together across the room.
The tables were loaded with steaming roasted meats, massive honey–glazed hams, creamy mashed potatoes, casseroles, fruit platters, pies, and endless snacks.
High Court wine was poured into cups of every imaginable material, filling the air with an intoxicating, fruity aroma.
NorthWind walked around the tables, looking at the familiar faces, but frowned in confusion.
“Hey, where’s Felix? Why haven’t I seen him?”
“It’s fine, Boss. I called him earlier. He said he’s busy and will be here in a bit,” Fly answered.
Even though the guilds had merged, the former Drifters still preferred to call NorthWind ‘Boss‘.
“I’m not the boss anymore, stop calling me that,” NorthWind glared at Fly. There were some things that, even if Riley didn’t mind, he absolutely couldn’t allow. At the end of the day, they were fundamentally one guild now, and a guild can only have one leader. He understood that perfectly.
But NorthWind’s tone quickly softened. “He’s not even on patrol duty today. What the hell is he busy with?”
Having just been scolded, Fly scratched his head sheepishly, just about to say he had no idea either.
Suddenly, BANG!
The tavern doors were violently shoved open from the outside.

There stood Felix, who had barely shown his face all day. Half his hair was singed off, and his face was covered in black soot, but he stood at the doorway with his chest puffed out, looking incredibly proud.
Piled at his feet were several black bundles stuffed tightly into wooden barrels and burlap sacks, radiating an overpowering smell of gunpowder.
“Finally got ‘em done!” Felix gasped for air, wiping the soot off his face with his sleeve. He tooked at Riley sitting at the head table, his tone three parts complaint and seven parts showing off. “Boss, you really gotta give more heads–up! Only telling us about the holiday one day in advance? I’ve been working so hard I haven’t even had a sip of water!”
Riley froze for a second. Her eyes swept over the highly dangerous items piled at Felix’s feet, and realization instantly hit her.
During the war with WarWolf and the monster siege, Felix–as the Drifters Alliance’s resident explosives expert–had made massive contributions with his homemade “pipe bombs” crafted from oil and black powder.
