Chapter 462 Cabin Fever
Chapter 462 Cabin Fever
The holiday party felt like a brilliant dream, and everyone happily stayed up practically all night.
Riley even sent everyone a holiday bonus. 800 contribution points.
But when everyone woke up the next day, that dream crashed hard into a freezing reality.
Exactly as they had predicted, a catastrophic super blizzard had arrived right on schedule.

The sky was completely sealed off by thick, lead–grey clouds. The gale–force winds acted like millions of invisible ice blades, whipping massive chunks of snow into a frenzy and violently tearing across the icefield. Visibility plummeted to less than 16 feet, and the snow outside the camp accumulated at a visible rate.
Riley stood on her second–floor balcony, holding a steaming mug of hot milk, quietly observing the situation outside the camp.
The temperature–control effect of the Bonfire Altar was definitely weakened. The ambient temperature inside the shield had dropped to around 50°F.
However, that was the extent of it.
Thanks to the massive infrastructure investments they had made, Explorer’s Torches were planted at regular intervals along the base’s main roads. The localized heat zones created by these torches overlapped, perfectly making up for the bonfire’s compressed
radius.
Coupled with the guild base’s towering, twenty–foot–tall obsidian walls that physically blocked the most violent winds, the interior was totally secure.
Even though snow was falling inside the camp, the temperature sat comfortably around 50°F. For the survivors, who averaged around level twenty and were decked out in full winter combat gear, this temperature was well within their comfort zone.
The vegetable patches near the camp had also been prepped with cold–resistant covers, so their growth wouldn’t be affected.
Over the next two days of the holiday, everyone strictly followed Riley’s ultimate directive: “Do absolutely nothing except patrol.”
The entire guild base was permeated with a bizarre yet incredibly harmonious “retirement” vibe. In a trance, it almost felt like they had been transported to a cozy winter resort town back on Earth.
Since the blizzard was too violent for external exploration, the tavern naturally became the most popular spot in the entire guild.
Pushing open the heavy oak doors of the tavern, a wave of heat mixed with rowdy shouting washed over anyone who entered.
“I raise! Haha, Arthur, your luck is absolute garbage today! Pay up, hand over the canned food!”
“Damian, did you stack the deck? Three full houses in a row?”
A large round table in the corner of the tavern was surrounded by people, three layers deep.
In the center of the crowd, several Hope Guild members were intensely playing Poker.
This deck of Poker cards was a rare treasure. LoneWolf and a few natives with high crafting skills had painstakingly fashioned the set from sheets of stiffened, heavy–duty plant–fiber parchment, using ink from a mutated squid to meticulously illustrate the suits and numbers on every single card.

Even the betting chips were wild.

In this entertainment–starved frozen world, this crude, hand–drawn Poker deck instantly became the ultimate cure for boredom.
Riley shoved her hands into her pockets and casually strolled over to the table.
“Oh, Boss is here! Have a seat, Boss!” Arthur had sharp eyes and immediately tried to stand up to offer his chair.
“Sit down, I’m not playing,” Riley waved him off. She glanced at the chips piled on the table and couldn’t help but laugh.
She didn’t know how to play anyway, and she had initially been slightly worried about gambling, planning to remind them to keep it casual.
But the chips piled on the table were a total chaotic mix: low–tier Frost Grass, scraps of mutated beast leather, chunks of refined iron ore, and someone had even bet two incredibly precious bottles of Coke.
