“Ease off the clutch! Learn to read the terrain, panic–turning like that is a death trap.”

PineappleBeer sat on the back seat, her arms locked firmly around TartKing’s waist. Her hood flapped violently in the gale as she coached TartKing through the ride.
“I… I am easing off! This thing is just too much to handle! TartKing gripped the handlebars, her knuckles white.
“You’re fine. There’s plenty of open space over there, take it for a spin. If you lose control, just throttle down,” PineappleBeer said.
“I can’t, I can’t! This is way too hard!”
The TartKing who was always laughing and upbeat was nowhere to be found.
For the past few nights, whenever PineappleBeer finished the patrol and got back early, she’d drag TartKing out for riding drills.
They had salvaged three snowmobiles from the WarWolf Guild, and TartKing was the only one who still hadn’t gotten the hang of it. They used their spare time to get her up to speed.
Plus, riding tandem allowed them to use the bike’s mobility to sweep the blind spots the main scouting party missed during the day.
Skrrrrt-
The bike skidded across the snow for a long distance before finally coming to a halt.
TartKing let out a long, shaky breath, peeled off her tactical goggles, and rubbed her wind–chapped cheeks. “Pineapple, your teaching method is brutal. I feel like my soul is still back at that last corner.”
PineappleBeer chuckled. She slid off the back and patted TartKing’s helmet. “You’ll get it after a few more tries. It’s rare to see you, miss ‘infinite energy,’ struggling with something, huh? Besides, learning to ride isn’t gonna hurt. We go again tomorrow, alright?”
Before she could finish the sentence, Pineapple Beer’s eyes sharpened.
“Get down!”
She shoved TartKing’s shoulder, pinning her against the dashboard.
Zip! Thwack!
A bone arrow whizzed past the top of TartKing’s helmet, burying itself deep in the snow ahead.
In a crater about 20 yards out, three bleached skeletons were wobbling to their feet, clutching weathered, broken wooden bows. They tilted their empty eye sockets toward the glare of the bike’s headlights, knocking arrows again.
“New monster spawn?” TartKing recovered instantly, a heavy greatsword appearing in her hand in a blur of motion.
She scanned the surroundings. Night had truly fallen, the time Ghouls usually spawned, but this was her first time seeing skeletons out on the icefield.
“Stay on the bike.”

PineappleBeer didn’t bother with her daggers; she squeezed in front of TartKing and took over the controls.
“Hold on tight.”
“What?”
Before TartKing could process it, PineappleBeer slammed the throttle.
That bike had plenty of fuel; no need to be stingy.
Vroom!
The exhaust spat a gout of flame, and the heavy machine surged forward, aiming straight for the three archers.
The first skeleton released its string, but the arrow was smashed mid–air as the bike’s front bumper slammed into it.
Crack!

The sound of shattering bone. Under the force of the impact, the fragile skeleton disintegrated into a cloud of white dust.
Second one. Third one.
PineappleBeer didn’t even adjust her line, her treads mercilessly crunching through the snow and pulverizing the remains.
“Nice!” TartKing threw a punch into the air from the back seat, the frustration from the training drill totally forgotten.
“Let’s head back. It’s dark, and the spawns are getting thicker.”
“Right!” TartKing leaned back against Pineapple Beer’s spine, feeling content.
