Chapter 473 The Perimeter Defense
Chapter 473 The Perimeter Defense
Arthur and Bruce stepped forward, grabbing the temporary wooden barricade that served as the gate.
The roar of the engine and the headlights acted like a massive beacon in the dark night.

As PineappleBeer and TartKing cleared the 100–yard mark, a series of raspy growls erupted from the snowbanks and ice ridges.
Dozens of frost–crusted Ghouls scrambled out of the snow, and further back in the darkness, the rhythmic snapping of bowstrings signaled the approach of more Skeleton Archers.
“Tart, hold on!” PineappleBeer warned.
She didn’t let up. She cranked the throttle, the treads clawing frantically at the snow. The bike tilted at a hair–raising angle, slicing right between two lunging Ghouls. The spray of ice from the tires hit the monsters square in the face, knocking them flat.
Zip! Zip! Zip!
Arrows hissed through the dark.
Clang! One arrow grazed the spine of TartKing’s greatsword, sparking wildly.
They were close now.
Arthur and Bruce swung the wooden gate open.
PineappleBeer navigated the six–foot gap with surgical precision, skidding to a halt inside the warm, golden radius of the bonfire.
The gate slammed shut–thud–and the heavy bolt dropped into place.
The second it closed, the Ghouls slammed into the wood, claws scraping in a maddening rhythm. The Skeleton Archers, having lost their target, blindly peppered the area around the firelight, but the arrows harmlessly clattered against the new wooden siding.
Behind the barricade, dozens of crossbow bolts whistled through the air, finding their marks.
Bruce, meanwhile, leveled a heavy crossbow, using the light from the torches to pick off the archers lurking in the dark.
Thud! Thud!
Two archers took bolts to the skull, their soul–fire extinguishing as the bones collapsed.
“That’s enough. Don’t waste the bolts,” Riley ordered, her voice cutting through the noise.
The low–tier mobs kept spawning in the night, and they were worth zero XP. There was no point in burning resources on them.
The guild members were well–drilled; they stopped firing, stowed their weapons, and pulled back to the safety of the bonfire.
As the target signature vanished and the barricade blocked the light, the monsters wandered aimlessly for a bit before the archers gave up, leaving them to pace the darkness like aimless ghosts.
TartKing peeled off her goggles and waved at Riley.
“Hey, Riley!”

Riley gave a small smile. “How was the riding?”
TartKing pouted. “Ritey, you’re supposed to worry about me first!”
