The scrawny man’s tone was incredibly sincere, bowing continuously, keeping his posture as submissive as possible.
“Yeah, yeah! Thank you for saving our lives, Boss!” the other two swordsmen quickly chimed in, plastering on grateful smiles, acting as if they hadn’t just tried to use Riley as a meat shield.
Seeing that Riley didn’t immediately attack, the scrawny man breathed a sigh of relief. His eyes darted around, and he continued, “Look, Boss, you chased off the Black Hawks, but we’re the ones who killed the twin–headed croc. So… how about we talk it over? We split the loot fifty–fifty, just as a little hazard pay for our hard work? We did find it first, after all.”
His pitch was airtight. First, admit defeat and apologize. Next, flatter her. Finally, tactfully surrender the lion’s share of the profit, begging for just a few scraps. It painted him as cooperative while trying to use the loot to stabilize Riley and lower her guard.
Riley listened quietly to the man’s performance, a deep mockery flashing in her
eyes.
She knew the true face of these apocalypse survivors all too well.
If she showed even a fraction of a percent of weakness right now, or if she had taken heavy damage fighting that assassin, these three smiling bastards would drive their swords through her heart without a second thought.
Even if they were groveling now, they’d absolutely look for a chance to backstab her later. She had to stay sharp.
But Riley didn’t call their bluff, nor did she raise her axes.
Her objective was intel.
Since she had been forced to fight, she wasn’t walking away empty–handed, and she was going to squeeze every drop of information out of them while she was at it.
“An even split based on needs is fine. I don’t want to be entirely unreasonable,” Riley said coolly.
Hearing Riley–who had just been overwhelmingly dominant–compromise, the men, who were terrified she’d slaughter them for the crate, finally relaxed.
“Perfect, that’s fair! So, should we split the goods first?”
But Riley pivoted sharply. “The loot can wait. Before that, I have a few questions for you.”
The scrawny man’s face stiffened, but he quickly slapped the flattering smile back on, though cold sweat was already beading on his forehead. “Ask away, Boss! Ask whatever you want! I swear I’ll tell you absolutely everything I know!”
“What floor of the dungeon is this?” Riley threw out the first question bluntly.
“What floor? The eighth floor, obviously,” the scrawny man paused, seemingly taken aback that she would ask such a basic question, but he didn’t dare talk back and answered honestly.

“The eighth floor?” Riley frowned.

“Yeah! Hasn’t the dungeon warm–up been going on for a while? Every survivor who enters starts directly on the fifth floor. You… you didn’t know?” The man couldn’t hide the confusion in his eyes.
As far as he was concerned, a woman with combat power this absurd had to be the apex fighter of some massive guild. How could an expert of her caliber not know the most fundamental rules of the instance? It made zero sense!
Riley was equally shocked internally, but her expression remained completely deadpan.
Warm–up? Starting from the fifth floor?
She remembered the horrific monster siege her base was suffering right before she was forcibly teleported. Not only did she not receive a single system notification about a “dungeon warm–up,” but she was also violently dragged in with zero preparation.
It seemed her server was indeed experiencing some severe anomalies.
“It doesn’t matter why I don’t know. Just explain every single dungeon rule you know, from the top,” Riley commanded.
