“The Black Fog wipes out every single living thing left on that floor–players included. So, we’re all forced to keep pushing up, running for our lives.”
The scrawny man let out a long breath. “Though… based on past experience, the dungeon’s only been open a day or two. The fog has probably only swallowed up to the sixth floor. We pushed fast and made it to the eighth, so the fog isn’t breathing down our necks just yet. Nobody is in a rush to climb higher right now; everyone’s camping this floor to scrap for resources and chests.”
Riley listened quietly, a grim picture of the dungeon’s brutal mechanics rapidly forming in her mind.
No wonder that guy she just fought cut his losses and ran so decisively. No wonder these three were groveling at her feet. You only got one life here; if you lost, you were wiped off the map and stripped of everything! Everyone was meticulously weighing the risks and rewards of every single encounter.
“Which server are you guys from? How do your guilds commu snowfield?” Riley fired off the questions, her tone easing up slightly.
How long have you been in the
If this was a multi–server fusion, Hope Guild members were randomly scattered across the dungeon. Finding each other within ten days while dodging a lethal fog and cross–server headhunters was practically impossible.
“We’re from the Raging Tide Guild on Server 109,” the scrawny man answered honestly. “As for comms… the system cut off the built–in cross–server chat. There’s a microscopic chance to pull a Single Use Dungeon Comms Card from a chest or a monster drop. It only works in here. You pop it, and you can send a twenty–word voice message to a specific ID across floors. It burns up after one use.”
“Do you have any on you?” Riley’s eyes sharpened. She fully intended to barter for one.
“No, no! We’re totally out!” The scrawny man grimaced, thinking Riley was about to rob them, waving his hands frantically. “The drop rate is garbage. We got lucky and pulled one earlier, but we burned it immediately to group up. The three of us spawned close, so we linked up to farm.”
The two swordsmen nodded emphatically to back him up.
Riley stared into the scrawny man’s eyes for a few seconds before nodding in resignation.
There was no reason for them to hide a consumable dungeon drop. If they said they didn’t have it, they probably didn’t.
“And how long have you been in the snowfield?”
“Going by Earth time, about thirteen months, give or take. Isn’t it the same for you?” the man asked, looking puzzled.
Riley ignored the counter–question, cleanly pivoting the conversation, “Alright, I’ve got the picture. Let’s look at the loot crate.”
Seeing her drop the interrogation, the scrawny man didn’t mind. The timeline wasn’t a big deal anyway; the loot was the main event. He immediately slapped his flattering smile back on and pointed at the glowing crate on the floor.

“Boss, check out the spoils… After you? You pop the crate, take a look, and we split it evenly like we agreed!” The man’s posture remained entirely submissive.
Riley didn’t budge. She didn’t buy for a second that survivors who had lived this long on a foreign server were actually this cowardly. They were playing nice, waiting for an opening.
Let me open the crate?
Opening a loot crate took time. And the exact moment a player focused on reading item descriptions was when their guard was completely down.
In a perma–death, full–loot zone like the eighth floor, exposing her back to three strangers who had literally just tried to use her as a meat shield?
Did she look suicidal?

Riley smiled faintly. “No need for pleasantries. You guys earned this
She pointed her crossbow at the swordsman on the left.
