Chapter 528 Reunion
“Tell them to stay put.”
Riley spoke firmly.
“We’re coming to them.”
The team pushed forward for another dozen minutes. Finally, a broken stone bridge came into view.

The bridge stretched over a dark underground fissure. Nearly half the deck had crumbled away, leaving only a narrow central strip to cross. No endless abyss waited below. Instead, still dark water filled the crack, bubbles occasionally rising to the surface.
A tall white mineral wall stood on the opposite bank. Behind it, the broken stone arm of a toppled statue peeked through the shadows.
RedBean’s eyes lit up.
“This has to be the place LoneSparrow described.”
Hanna didn’t rush forward to
She stared at the bridge deck.
“This spot’s perfect for an ambush.”
LoneWolf scanned the water on both sides.
“Something could be hiding in the water.”
Riley raised a hand, halting the team right before the bridge.
She picked up a loose stone and tossed it down into the water below.
The stone splashed and sent ripples spreading outward.
A few seconds later, the water burst open. A pale gray tongue shot out, coiled tight around the stone, and snapped back underwater in an instant.
୮
The stone vanished beneath the surface, followed by sharp crunching sounds, like something crushing it to pieces.
Bruce’s face darkened.
“There really is something down there.”
Riley kept her gaze fixed on the water.
More bubbles floated up one after another.
“More than one.”
if they charged across blindly, the underwater creatures would definitely strike. They’d yank anyone on the bridge down into the depths.

Riley refused to force a crossing.
She ordered the crossbowmen to switch to regular bolts and fire at every bubbling patch on the water’s surface.
Bolts pierced the water. Thin blood threads curled up from several spots, but the underwater monsters never fully surfaced. They seemed to be lying in wait, holding back until players stepped onto the bridge.
Riley thought fast. She pulled out a white–shell rat corpse and tossed it onto the middle of the bridge deck.
The second the body landed, three long tongues shot up from the water.
Two snapped toward the corpse. The third lashed straight for the shield tank standing at the bridge’s edge.
Hanna was ready. She fired one clean shot and severed the tongue mid–strike.
A high–pitched shriek echoed from underwater.
Riley seized the opening and charged onto the bridge. She swung her axe hard, slicing at the root of the tongue dragging the rat
corpse.
The brute force traveled down the tongue and into the water, forcing the monster to thrash half its body above the surface.
It looked like a mix of lizard and fish. Flat bony fins lined its back. Its mouth split almost all the way to the sides of its head, with that long tongue shooting out from deep in its throat.
A system name popped up.
[Fissure Lizardtongue]
Its level was far from low.
Riley didn’t let it dive back down. She hurled her second axe, slamming it into the bony fin on its head.
Hanna and the crossbowmen followed up with concentrated fire, pinning the monster to the bridge edge and killing it outright.
The scent of blood drew the rest of the Lizardtongues out. More tongues lashed upward from the water, striking relentlessly.
This time, Hope Guild was fully prepared.
Shield tanks locked down the bridge entrance. Crossbowmen focused fire on every incoming tongue. Riley finished off any monster that surfaced. LoneWolf guarded the team’s rear, stopping new mobs from flanking them from behind.
The fight was short, but risky.
One guild member got his waist coiled by a tongue. He nearly got dragged off the bridge.
Bruce dove forward, grabbing his leg to hold him steady. Hanna fired two quick shots and cut the tongue free, yanking the injured member back to safety.
The player’s face was deathly pale. It took him a long moment to catch his breath and speak.
“Thanks, Bruce.”
Bruce panted, then scolded gruffly.

Stand your ground better next time. Don’t feed yourself to the monsters.”
After clearing all underwater threats, the team crossed the bridge carefully.
The dead Lizardtongues dropped tongue tendons, bony fins, Frost Tokens, and a rare material bundle.

Once past the bridge, the full view of the collapsed goddess statue finally unfolded before them.

The statue’s upper half was broken off. Its head lay tumbled on the ground. Only one stone hand remained frozen in a raised, holding pose.
A natural hollow sat right beside it, blocking sightlines from two directions and making a perfect hiding spot.
RedBean received a new message right away.
“LoneSparrow said they heard our fight. They’re hiding right behind the statue.”
Riley gestured for the team to slow their pace.
She called out toward the other side.
